Here's a conversation that happened a little while ago at the grocery store between me and the cashier:
Cashier: looks sweetly at Robinson and asks him a bunch of questions like, "what's your name", "how old are you"..etc.
Me: answers the questions because Robinson is VERY quiet around strangers and just looks at them like why are you talking to me
Me: "he's just very quiet"
Cashier: "oh, does he have that Down Syndrome?"
Me in my head: ???!!?!???!
Me out loud: "um, no"
Cashier: "oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult you"
Me: "you didn't insult me"
Me in my head: I'm insulted for all of the sweet babies that actually have that condition that you are ignorant enough to think that they are just quiet
Cashier:" my grandbaby has that Down Syndrome and he just stares at me and is quiet like your boy so I thought he might have the same thing"
Me in my head: Now I think you're even more of an idiot and feel awful for your grandbaby that his own grandmother doesn't learn about his condition
Me out loud: " we have to go"
UGH....some people...

I love the part "Oh, does he have that Down Syndrome?"
Really.
Jackie, I just feel for her. You know she'll probably never know better. And that's just sad.
On a slightly different note, Mr RT is looking mighty fine! He's so smart to already figure out not to talk to ignorant strangers
The Baby Blog.
It's so sad how some are so ignorant to everything!
This exactly! I mean, I really wanted to ask her "are you high??" but I held back. My heart hurt for little grandchild, b/c 1. there is no telling if the child really does have DS- he might have something else and she's just that confused or 2. if he does have DS, then it's just terrible that she knows so little about his condition. You said it best, though...it's just really, really sad.
Thanks for the compliment on RT ...Mr. Mason is become quite the handsome devil as well! I love that smile- such a ham
pure and total ignorance...such a sad situation that there are people like her out there.
on a similar note to ignorant people..back when we had our cystic fibrosis scare with Aubrey my MIL was so ignorant to the fact of what CF was and did absolutely no research that she says to me and Wes
"I don't know what ya'll are getting so worked up about unless its at the doctors for putting you through this unecessarily for a skin condition...send her to a dermatologist!"
I wish I was making that up but some people (family included are ignorant).
