the most they will do is an intrathecal, which only numbs a small portion of your middle. you still feel all the pain when the baby comes out, and you can still walk. I had it with my first.

If it is that big of a deal then go to a different hospital.

Mine offers it and I plan on using it (I think).

OMG I would be at another hospital. I loved my epi and will be doing it again. I don't need to feel the pain thank you very much!

I would switch hospitals. I did not get the epidural until 7cm with DS... and I could not imagine how I would have managed without it. No thanks!

While I think that is strange in this day and age, if you were able to deal with it the last time go you. I would like to go epi-free with this baby and not having the option would help!

I have not tolerance for pain so I would find a differetn hospital! But if that's what you want to go with then that's fine.

With my first I had an epidural at 2 cm becuase my body wasn't letting itself progress. I was induced and was on pitocin and demoral too! hehe. like I said- no tolerance for pain.

I wonder what your hospital does for C-sections? Isn't it common practice nowadays for an epi for a c-section? What happens at your hospital if someone needs an emergency C-section?

are you on a military base??? I had my son at an Army base and they only offered the intrathecal do to the fact there was no on call anethesiologist (sp) I've had BOTH and honestly there wasnt much of a difference , in fact with the epi I could still feel pain in my right side. Its your choice but dont let it scare you. the intrathecal is one and done so thats the only precaution, you dont want to get it to early otherwise you'll be in more pain towards the end.

Sound like an awesome hospital. That will for sure cut down on unnecessary cesarians.

Do they offer it if you have to go to surgery though? I'm assuming it's a yes.

I live in a very rural area and an epi is not an option for us. If you are in need of a c-section mid-delivery then you are rushed to the closest major hospital 2 hours away.

This is why I am being induced at the major hospital. Saves myself the time and trouble.

My hospital didn't do the epi before, but it's just now starting this month. There are plenty of other pain relievers that they have tho, including something to take the edge off in general, and and injection to completely numb the vagina.
