Any tips for wiping a snotty nose?

I used to be so disgusted seeing crusty, snot-nosed kids, but now understand.  It's so much easier to leave it, then physically fight her to wipe her nose.  You would think I'm torturing her, the way she wails and throws herself around.  Does anyone have any tricks/tips to clean this kid up?  The only time she really lets me is when she's in the bath!

  • I always use a wet washcloth or paper towel because it isn't as rough.

  • We use those extra soft kleenexes, and then I dab the skin under her nose and make "boop boop boop" noises with each dab. It usually makes her laugh.

DD screams like yours if I just try to wipe.

  • My LO had two colds in January so we had the same prob...we would only use a baby wash cloth with warm water.  He actually liked getting his nose wiped this way...any other way and he would throw a complete fit. It was kind of a hassle to run warm water every time he needed it wiped but worth it. I hope your LO feels better soon!!

  • My cousin LOVES the "Boogie Wipes."  Her son doesn't fight her at all anymore when she goes to wipe his face with these.

I haven't tried them yet but we haven't really had a cold yet either.

  • We do a "tst tst tst" sound like what we do when we are dabbing her mouth and that lets her know we aren't dissecting her, lol. She FREAKS if we try to surprise her. I show her the tissue and start the sound before I touch her and she really seems to understand. You also gotta be fast and don't be a hero and try to get every last crumb.
  • I put vaseline on his nose so it doesn't get so irritated and he doesn't get so mad, it might also help keep it from getting so crusty. I use a soft tissue or wipe to clean it. I often have to suction his nose too and I joke with him like "tell those boogers to watch out, Momma's gonna get 'em. They're no match for your Momma" He seems to get a kick out of it (probably just thinks I'm crazy!)
  • Oh my gosh, just looked up Boogie Wipes...."Snot Your Average Wipe!"  I love it!  I need to buy some just for that slogan, alone.

I think part of the problem is her little lip is already sore from 3 weeks of wiping.   Thanks for all the suggestions!!

  • My sister also uses the Boogie Wipes and she likes them... they have saline in them so they help to not get them so dried out.
