rp: mommas of boys

J's foreskin, when pulled back, looks really pink and swollen. We just moved up to cruisers from swaddlers-could this be the cause? Anyone have any experience with this? There is no discharge, just swollen skin..

  • I don't think you are supposed to be pulling the foreskin back! ouch! I'm assuming he is uncirc'd, right?
  • Loading the player...
  • oh no..he is circ'd...i was told from the beginning to always pull it down and clean it during diaper changes..if i dont pull it down then it covers the head and gets all yucky...

  • We pull it down to clean at diaper changes, get all the yucky out, but I've never noticed it being swollen, maybe put some vasaline or diaper cream on it? I would doubt it would be because of the diaper switch.
  • How does he still have his foreskin if he's circed?

There's still a little bit of skin left that can be pulled back.  When they grow, the skin stretches out until it becomes like an adult circ'd penis, with no foreskin.   Best explanation I could come up with.

  • I know what you're talking about.  Our LO is circ'd and you can still but a little skin back.  We have noticed it being a little red and maybe swollen looking so we put vaseline on it every once in a while to let it calm down...and the pp of 'towel time' sounds like a good idea also.
  • What method of circumcision is that?  Ours was the PlastiBell (no foreskin left).  I wonder if that way is better.

Ours used the gomco clamp method (metal bell that goes over the head).  Once the circ is done, there is nothing left to fall off like the plastibell.  You can see in the picture below where they cut, so there is a bit of skin left.

  • idk, but he has A LOT of skin left that has to be pulled back so i can clean it properly...it looks just like a grown mans penis, when soft...skin gathered at the base of the head.

  • My DS has this extra skin too. Doc says it's b/c he's chubby and has extra skin down there. His gets a little pink sometimes too. I think it might be b/c diapers are getting too small. Going to try the towel idea this weekend.
