TMI: post birth AF?

For the moms who BF out there... did you ever spot before your first post-birth AF?

I just noticed some spotting... I've also had some supply issues lately (which might be explained if I'm getting AF.)

Ugh. I am so no wanting to start back with AF right now, although this would be the first since July 2008. I heard the first couple can be pretty bad... am I right?

Re: TMI: post birth AF?

  • I was one of the lucky ones that continued to get mine while BFing. But I have heard that if it doesnt come for a while, usually the first one is heavy.

  • I had some light spotting a day or two before the real AF.  I remember because I was thinking "Wow, this isn't as bad as they all say!"

And then it hit for real.

It wasn't super bad.  But it was really heavy and lasted a long time (over a week).  The first several AF's were really heavy, but after about 6 months it was all normal again.

Just be prepared and take a tampon or whatever with you if you start feeling crampy or having any signs of AF at all.  You don't want to be out in public unprepared.

  • I got my first one two months ago. Huh?

Mine havent been horrible, but not the light ones I was used to before birth. They also aren't regular. Which is a bit scary at times. lol.

  • my first one was AWFUL... like so bad I went to the OB thinking I was bleeding to death.
  • My first several seemed really bad to me.  However, I was on bc forever and used to VERY short, VERY light periods, so it may have just been a change from what I was used to.  For all I know, it was normal...
