TTC After a Loss

Blindsided...(tears,re's,pcos mentioned)

So i went back in for my u/s this morning to make sure I had collasped. Well she couldent really tell if I had or not. Then she said "at least we can get a confirmed diagnosis of PCOS". Indifferent

Ive been so strong with all this and I just lost it. I asked why? Why do you think its PCOS? She said "there are just so many little cysts fighting each other". The Clomid did NOTHING. She said my prometrium was thin and I had very little CM. But continue BDing for the next 72 hours. Hopefully I will get ku this cycle but it sure as hell isnt looking like it.

So, Ladies with PCOS start talking to me. What helps? What gets me ku?

  • Clayli, love, I am so so sorry. I can't understand why you have to go through this.

I hope the ladies here have insights. Ask PGAL too, I know Mia and several of the others are all KU with PCOS.

  • I don't know a whole lot about it. I just wanted to tell u I understand ((((hugs)))

I may be right there with you. I'll know more on Monday. I was blindsided by the ob thinking I've become insulin resistant. I'm terrified. I've been reading up on it, and honestly, it sounds just like I am.......it also resembles pcos and can be commonly connected to it-----so I'm right there with you, hun.

    Big ((((((hugs)))))))

    We'll get through this together!

  • Oh, I'm so sorry hun:( I really do hope you still get ku this cycle. What a stupid u/s tech, though! (((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))

  • I have PCOS, I was diagnosed after my first loss in 2006, my case is mild though.  I don't have the insulin resistance or the weight gain. I do have what they call "string of pearl cysts" on both ovaries.  Alot of mid-cycle spotting and strange cycles.   I was lucky enough that since it isn't severe clomid worked for me. I wonder though have they done a combo of metformin(glucophage) and clomid?  What was your clomid dose?

edited....I also have hair growth and bumps that appear around my eyes, I'm not sure if you have any of those. But, I think with the insulin resistance that is when it gets a little harder.

  • I don't have PCOS but know plenty of people who had babies with that diagnosis.  Your doctor is just going to have to find a med that you respond to.

I didn't respond to Clomid, Femara OR Follistim so I know this can be very frustrating.  Hang in there and don't give up hope yet.

  • I'm sorry about the dx.  That must be frustrating and overwhelming.  The good news is that you are seeing a doctor who can help you get pg in this situation.  Now that you know what's going on, you'll be able to come up with a plan.  I'm hoping you get pg with your sticky baby soon.
  • Oh no!  I'm so sorry!  When I was told I had low progesterone I felt defeated, but at the same time kind of relieved that we now know why I'm not getting pregnant.  Getting pregnant is not impossible for you, and now that your dr knows why you're not getting pregnant, you can be put on the proper medications.  My SIL has PCOS and I believe she's on metformin.  Like previous post said, check PgAL, I know there are women over there that have it, but have gotten pregnant.

  • I was told when I was like 21 that I had PCOS. But my OB kind mentioned it in passing and never said anything about it again. So I did some research of my own. One of problems is insulin resistance which can lead to decreased egg quality or lack of ovulation- Metformin is proven to help this. (I'm not on Metformin yet but if it doesn't happen soon I probably will request trying it). Another thing that can help is going on a low carb diet and losing weight (because it will help regulate your blood sugar).

    Does this help at all?

  • Hey Clayli -

Sorry about your results.  I knew that I had PCOS before I was dignosted, but in all honesty, the confirmation after the ultrasound just devistated me.  Something about actually being diagnosed with it really took me down.

The good thing about PCOS, is it is one of the most treatable causes of infertility.  Most will respond to some sort of treatment option, its just a toss up as to which one.  The bad news is the miscarriage rate for PCOS is so high (50%).  However, studies are showing that taking metformin (even if you're not insulin resistant) decreases that back down to a "normal" number.  Have you been tested for insulin resistance (sorry, I can't remember)?

Sorry the Clomid didn't do much good.  What dosage were you on?  If it was thining your CM and lining, then it probalby doesn't matter anyways.  I'm glad your doc is monitoring you.  Did she indicate what the next steps would be if you're not KU this cycle?

There is a check in for PCOS on Infertility.....Tuesday and Thursday mornings (although I think it was changing days).  The gal that posts has some great info in her bio on PCOS.  Another great source...is www.soulcysters.com.  I can spend hours on that site.

  • Good morning, Clayli. I'm really sorry about your concrete diagnosis. I don't have experience with PCOS but I have been reading up on it alot lately (I suspect I have it too) but just wanted to offer hugs. Like the PP said, many of the women on this boards have it and many of the TTCAL grads have it too. From what I've read, it's very treatable.
  • I just wanted to say I am sorry. :::hugs:::

  • I have the string of pearls on both my ovaries. Initial diagnosis was I would need assistance if I ever wanted children. A few weeks later I apparently was pg didn't know until I was close to 16 weeks just because no period was normal for me and I had no m/s etc. I have a two year old now. It was a little harder for us to get pg the second time around because of the periods coming sporadically. PCOS def doesn't mean you can't have kids. MY BFF has it and hasn't been able to get PG on her own however now is getting ready for injectable's/chlomid didn't work for her. It is definitely different for everyone who has it but keep your head up.
  • Clayli, honey, I am so sorry you got this diagnosis, I hope some of the ladies on here with experience with this diagnosis can help you. sending hugs your way....

  • Oh, Clayli, I am so sorry hun. I don't have any experience with PCOS, but I know other girls with who have healthy babies. Sending you lots of T&P and big big (HUGS)?
  • HUGS.  I am so sorry.  I wish I had some insight for you.
  • I second the recommendation for the Soul Cysters website.  There is a ton of great information on there.  Start cutting out carbs if you can--I know that when I follow the South Beach Diet I ovulate a lot more reliably than when I'm eating a lot of bread/sugar/etc.  Talk to your doc about Metformin; I've never been on it, but I know it helps a lot of people.

    I know you feel blindsided by this, but PCOS isn't insurmountable.  I hope you can find a great treatment plan soon!  {{hugs}}
