  Mine was external.

  Some women say that they started out as external but the tech wasn't getting a good look so they switched to internal.

  Mine was transabdominal.

  It's funny how much you forget about the first time around, isn't it?  I has to ask this same question.

  Mine was both.  They did the regular ultrasound for almost all of it, but did transvaginal to check me out.

  Mine was both, but only transvaginal because the placenta looked close to my cervix and he wanted to investigate further.
