Bassinetts...do you really use them?

Ok, so this may sound dumb, but does anyone actually use a bassinett?  I am not sure if I should spend the money on a good one or if they are kind of pointless.  I have a lot of friends tell me that they go straight to the crib and others just use a pack n play.  My mom had one for us when we were little, but I am wondering if they are even practical?

Re: Bassinetts...do you really use them?

  • We used one- probably only spent about $100 on it.  We had DS in our bedroom for the first almost 3 months.  I didn't want to use a pack-n-play (too big).

  • We plan on using the bassinet included in the PNP then switch to the crib.
  • I have a few friends who said they ended up just using their papasan's and barely ever used their bassinett.  I was wondering the same thing though, should I buy both or trust that my baby will sleep in the papasan and is it really safe to have it sleeping in their all the time?

we did this for the first 6 weeks or so. then DS got moved to his crib since the pack and play was just to big for our bedroom and got annoying trying to getting around it.

  • We were thinking to use the bassinet that comes with our stroller for our bedroom the early weeks.

  • Okay, well this may be a stupid question, but is their a weight limit to a bassinet?  Maybe pack n play is better way to go.  I just dont want to buy one if I am only going to use if for a week or two.

  • I had one and only used it one night because my Lo was a noisey sleeper and I couldn't sleep because evey noise he made I would get up to check on him.  Needless to say the next night I put him in his crib. bettter Sleep for both of us.
  • We used it while we kept DS in our room and until we got him a crib.  We got it from my sister who was giving it away.  It was very helpful, but   I do not know if we would spend a lot of money on it.  I think my sister spent $25.  If we were buying it, we probably would have bought a pack n' play.

  • We didn't plan on getting one but ended up with one because our furniture didn't arrive in time - we loved it!  It didn't take up as much room & we could move it more easily if we were going to be in one area of the house.  It was particularly helpful because I had a c-section and couldn't go up & down the stairs so we would bring it down in the AM and take it up in the evening.

  • We had our DD in the crib from day 1. However, I have a friend that had a Co-Sleeper (can't think of the brand) and loved it. It worked for nighttime feedings and then they just used it as a PNP later on.
  • We used ours for the first 4 months Everynight!  That is where our guy slept every night.  Once he out grew it then he slept in the pack n play in our room until he was 6 mnths, then to his crib.

I totally recommend getting one.  It was nice because we could easily roll it into the livingroom if I decided to sleep on the couch for awhile.

Love mine, Kolcraft... spent $100 on it, now I see Babies R Us has them for $75 plus you can use the 20% off coupons they send out.  This is a great one!
