help me remove vomit smell

DS vomited cookies and cream ice cream all over the carpte.  I have spot cleaned, rug doctored, used nature's miracle and now using baking soda but it REEKS!!! I am seriously considering replacing the carpet. Any other fool proof  ideas? I will try anything!

  • I swear by vinegar and Tide. Our dog had a pretty nasty accident upstairs earlier this week. The stench was unreal - filled the whole house. The vinegar and Tide mixture pretty much took the stain up and the smell is gone.

Edit: take a little Tide, mix with 1/2 c - 1 c vinegar and mix. I pour some (not a ton) on the spot and soak it up with a towel.

  • camrude-what is the mixture?

    just pour it on?

Yes. (not sopping wet, but enough to cover the area). You can soak it up with a wet cloth and then let it dry.

Just a little Tide and mix with 1/2 c - 1 c vinegar and mix. I pour some (not a ton) on the spot and soak it up with a towel.

  • I second and third vinegar.  We had friends over one night and their kid vomited on our fairly new carpet.  Fortunately, his dad cleans carpets for a living and he said to give him some white vinegar.  He cleaned it up.  No smell left at all.
  • Any pet cleaning product with enzymes. Worked miracles when a gallon of milk spilled in my car. In Arizona. In the summer.
