Cloth/ disposable diapers... Or biodegradable??

Anyone hear of these diapers:

I guess the disposable inserts are flushable and biodegradable and don't have any latex/ perfume/ plastics so are supposed to help with preventing diaper rash... What do you ladies think? Looks like they cost about the same as regular disposables..

Yes, we're using them (so long as we can--fingers crossed). I did a significant amount of research before deciding on them. They are actually going to end up more expensive than regular disposables, particularly if you chose an off-brand. I decided that it would be my contribution to a better earth for LO.

There are lots of women for whom they apparently do not work well (problems with leaking), but the consensus seems to be that they work great if you are willing to put forth a bit of effort for a few days/weeks to figure it all out and get your system down. They will be messier (esp. in the beginning) than disposables, of course. Some people's homes cannot handle flushing them, but we will toss the dirty ones if that is the case. They still disintegrate much faster. We will compost the wet ones.

Based on everything we've researched, we will also not be using them until LO is ready for a size medium, given that (1) they can wear the size small for such a short amount of time, and the diapers are expensive, (2) their poops will be much messier for the time they are in a size small, and (3) belly button healing issues.

Yep and the inserts cost .15 more per insert than a disposable diaper. If I were going to use these, I would go with a cloth insert instead. I use Bum Genius One size 3.0 and Flip diapers with an organic insert.

They're a little more expensive than regular disposables. Overall, I haven't heard great things about them. A lot of people have trouble flushing the inserts - even with new pipes. The thing is that you don't know there's a problem until you have to get your pipes snaked. They don't normally create a problem that can be solved by plunging the toilet. Some people have leak issues but not everyone. I think that mostly depends on your babies shape and could happen with any diaper. The general consensus is that if you're willing to do cloth - do cloth. If you're not then I think gDiapers are a pretty good alternative. I was given 2 of them and I'm really looking forward to trying them out.

One benefit they have over cloth diapers is that you don't have to deal quite so closely with the poop (yep, I said *the* poop). If you use cloth diapers and your baby eats solids you have to scoop the poop out of the diaper and into the toilet. With a gDiaper you can just grab the edge of the insert and flush it (or compost it or trash it). I'm trying a combination of cloth, disposable, and gDiapers.

Yeah ... I have no personal experience with them either but I haven't heard the greatest reviews of them ... there are plenty of great products out there ... we're definitely going cloth ... researched cloth diapers for months ... literally, visiting cloth diapering stores, asked a zillion questions of the EFFers, read reviews, etc. Once we figured out what we were going to use ... it was a bit of a shock in terms of the start-up costs but in the end we'll be saving money (among the million other reasons to go cloth). And I agree that cloth is far more cost-effective and probably just better generally. The issue is with women like me who can't use cloth. My MIL refuses to cloth diaper and she'll be watching LO (most day cares also won't do it). And so I'm hoping this will be a happy medium for all of us.

I would be very wary of those flushable inserts. A coworker of mine had major plumbing issues from them.

We have our babysitters and family just use disposables when they watch DS. As far as day cares go, you have to ask what they would take when it comes to cloth. I think a lot of places won't do the old fashioned prefolds and pins, however the Bum Genius line are about as simple as disposables for day care providers. You can always just have them roll up the dirty diaper, stick it in the wet bag and you can deal with the poop when you get home. I love my Bum Genius because it's so simple to use and now that I have a routine down, it's even easier. The Flip line is great too-a lot like gDiapers, but you have more options and they are one size and fit from 8-35lbs.

I would totally do cloth if we could find a diaper service, but there are none in Columbus Ohio... So we have to resort to the next best thing.. I don't think we're going to actually flush the inserts but they say the inserts degrade a lot quicker than regular diapers..

I guess we will have to try these and regular diapers when baby gets here and see what we like better!

They look easy, but the cost factor would be the thing keeping me from using them. I like all-cloth diapers because it's a one-time investment. With these, you'll still have to buy the inserts.

We are using them! I did buy cloth inserts for them off of etsy.com, we will only be using the disposable inserts when we are out.

I did also get a really good deal on them (Babies r us, was discontinuing their starter packs, so I bought them on clearance plus I had a $10 off coupon for each starter pack). I recommend signing up on their website so that they can send you coupons.

We use cloth. Mostly one-size pockets but my stash is kind of eclectic. Day care has no problem with my diapers. In fact one of the teachers is pregnant and is now considering cloth for her own baby. We use mostly Fuzzi Bunz and Bum Genius for daycare. I do have 1 flip diaper which you can get disposable inserts for kind of like the G Diapers. I like it very much, but only for daytime use. I need something I can stuff more inserts into for night.

We got some given to us and we are excited to try them out. Everyone we know that has used them has liked them. We have also bought some bum genious diapers to use at home. (Although we will still be using disposables when we go out of town).
