Formula to Haiti?

The PP about formula companies sending stuff got me thinking.  I have a bunch of powdered formula that I was given and will never use.  I wonder if I could send it to Haiti or maybe even somewhere local that needs it.  I wonder how I would go about doing that.

Re: Formula to Haiti?

  • What a fantastic idea! We have 10 cans that we won't use since we can get the RTF around the same price and it's easier for us. Let us know if you find anything out!

Of course, I'm googling it right now :)

  • You can try your local church if they are planning on sending supplies to Haiti.

If not, check out your local women's shelter. They always need diapers and formula.

  • Local food banks would also take it

  • Heh, I was JUST about to post and ask what people do with the formula samples they don't use. We supplement, but we have to use the sensitive kind, and I have a bunch of samples of the regular kind. I am thinking that for Haiti purposes the ready-to-drink kind would be ideal, since the availability of clean water might be a problem, but I'm sure that whatever you give would be put to good use.

  • Money is the best thing to donate to Haiti, but obviously by now donations of goods are getting a little easier to ship, if you can find someplace organizing them.  But it should always be RTF; donate your extra powdered stuff closer to home, where we have clean water.
  • A local baby store was collecting donations and I asked about formula and they said no.  I would donate somewhere local.  I guess the reasons were that they didn't want stuff that expired and they are having issues with clean water.

  • I donated all of the formula that I received in the hospital and through the mail to a collection at work for Haiti. They said it is through Score International, and Fed Ex is shipping it for free. Drop off is tomorrow. We decided to donate supplies to an orphanage there. People brought formula, diapers, wipes, pacifiers.
