Can Glyburide cause an increase in heartburn?

I've had heartburn since the week before I found out I was pregnant.  It's been fairly easy to control as long as I take Pepcid.

Since being on the Glyburide it's gotten so much worse and the Pepcid has pretty much stopped working!

Has this happened to anyone else?  If so, have you found something else that helps with the heartburn?

Thanks!

Re: Can Glyburide cause an increase in heartburn?

  • I am SOOO glad you mentioned this!!!! When I had my endocrin. appt. this week I mentioned that since I started taking the glyburide, I had awful 'wake me in the middle of the night' heartburn - seriously from the day I started it.  They kinda shrugged me off - but seeing your post makes me feel less crazy :)

And an aside - since I have stopped and been switched to insulin - amazingly, my heartburn has disappeared completely.... doesn't sound like a coincidence to me!

Last night I woke up with the most terrible burning in my throat and I could feel the acid coming up.  It was AWFUL and that's the first time it's ever happened like that.  I will definitely mention it at my appt on Saturday and see what they say.

Nope, doesn't sound like a coincidence at all!

  • I havent taken glyburide so I cant help there, but if you can clear it with your doctor, your should try Ultra Xcid. You can get it at walmart for like $5 and it works like any other antacid. My boyfriend has stomach ulcer and HORRIBLE heartburn all the time, but that stuff is miracle in a tube for him lol. He sometimes wakes up literally crying because his chest hurts so bad but if he takes a spoonful of that, he is back to sleep in about 3-4 min. It really works that fast! Its a creamy substance that comes in a tube but it isnt chalky like tums or rolaids can be. We buy it in strawberry and it works wonders... pepcid and nexium dont help him at all, and this is SO much cheaper lol
