She is just starting to. Its pretty cool watching her do it on her own! of course, its just here and there. Most of the time if I need her to finish eating (this century!) I have to feed her.
my nearly 3 year old is the neatest little eater with her fork and spoon, my 14 month old, not so much. she dumps everything and scoops it up in her hands...so gross and messy! i can't recall when the transition happens, but i hope it is soon!

I had her starting at least 6 months ago..I'd just give her the utensil and let her have at it. I'd try to model for her, etc.
Now she's great with them, but I actually give her a real fork to use, not the gerber kid ones because they don't jab anything! And it ends up just being frustrating for her. The small forks work great and she's never hurt herself.
Soup still gets everywhere, but she feeds herself everything...yogurt, oatmeal, cottage cheese, etc.
I had to let her make a mess for her to learn and that was the toughest part for me LOL

I tried to introduce her to it about 2 months ago and it was a big no go! Just within the last week she picked up on it and is doing wonderful just has trouble stabbing her food sometimes.
DD demanded a spoon soon after we introduced solids, but she didn't really use it (other than to chew on the end) until she was about 11 months old. We let her use a fork at 13 months. She does pretty well, but she also gets frustrated if she's really hungry. I sometimes help her scoop something and then let her put it in her mouth. This usually only lasts for one or two bites before she gets mad at me for helping.
The fork has actually made a big difference for our picky eater. Turns out she likes eating things with a fork, even if it was something we thought she didn't care for in the past.
I started giving her utensils at 9 months to "use". She now uses forks all the time. She even uses restaurant forks when I forget a smaller one. She hates when we try and feed her.
She started consistently using a fork around 18-19 months. Still no spoon. She hasn't figured out the whole gravity thing when she turns it upside down.
We give him one now. Once he actually stabbed something himself - I was so proud of him! Usually I put the food on the fork and then hand it to him and he'll feed himself.
Re: When did your LO start using a fork and spoon?
