Since we are still on the topic a poll: How healthy

do you normally eat? Not your kids but you. Do you feel like you follow advice that you might give here regarding nutrition and portion control for yourself?

Re: Since we are still on the topic a poll: How healthy

  • I would give myself a 'needs improvement'.

I eat too much junk and drink too much diet coke.

  • I have a big problem with portion size, esp if I'm stressed out.  And I drink way too much coffee.  Other than that, I eat pretty well.

    .
  • I've had high cholesterol in the past so I generally eat pretty healthy.  Then when I cheat I don't feel so guilty.  We have a strong history of heart disease on my mom's side so that looms over me!

  • I eat pretty well...except I do have a sweet tooth that I indulge too often!  Often I'll get something (a treat) and eat it where DD can't see.  I hide sweet food from DD!  Of course that won't work forever.  I don't have a weight problem though...although I'd like to lose 5 pounds.
  • I eat as well as my kids eat, plus a few more chips and cookies :)  But I think my health is as important as theirs, so if I believe in organic meat/dairy, lots of fruit/veggies, etc for them (which I do), I believe in it for me, too.  But I also know my metabolism and can eat more snacks, which I do not do in front of them.  I eat what they eat and I think that is why they are both (so far) good, healthy eaters.
  • I am an emotional eater, so even though I know *how* to eat healthy, when I am struggling emotionally, its very hard to do what I know is right.

I don't drink soda or eat fried or fast food, but I can down carbs like nobody's business when I am stressed or upset.

  • I will always say 'needs improvement'. If I ate the way I should, I wouldn't have needed to lose close to 100 lbs. I still have a long way to go, but I am better.

I am too much of a sweets junkie to be perfect.

  • Nutrition and portion control are actually one of my strong suits. I am pretty anal about what I eat and how much of it I eat. That and exercise I'm slightly OCD about. (kidding..sort of :oP)

  • I wasn't eating healthy at all, and need to lose a lot of weight.  I decided for my kids sake to do it and I've been doing WW for a month now.  I lost only 3 lbs, and I do follow the points, but I have PCOS and maybe that doesn't help.

But 3lbs is 3 lbs plus its still healthier eating.

  • I don't eat that great-I am within my weight range but could lose about 10 lbs. I just eat a lot of junk. Lately tho I have been trying to change my ways and have been doing pretty good. I have been trying to incoporate more veggies and fruit into my diet. Each morning I have been making smoothies with berries and spinach in them so I am proud of myself about that. In general tho, I have issues with food...
  • I like junk food too much, and I'm also a really picky eater so I lack variety.

But overall, I do eat pretty healthy and try to eat the same things I feed Jackson.

One thing that I can say is good about what I do is I am a water junkie.  I drink water all day long, and pretty much no other beverages.  I'm well-hydrated.  :)  I don't drink a lot of sodas, juice or coffee.  I'll have a coke here and there when we go out to eat, but not all that often.

  • I am very conscious about what I eat & for the most-part, eat well.  I don't drink alcohol, coffee or soda.  I always eat breakfast. I have a high-fiber diet, which allows me to eat more calories w/o gaining weight.  I also work out at Curves 3x/ week, so I see my eating habits as another part of my regimen.  I want to be able to get the most out of my working out, so I eat healthy.  After 4 kids, I weigh what I did in high school (which was my goal weight), so the working out & eating well has been VERY worth it!
  • I thought I was doing great on WW.  Weight-wise sure, but what's going in my mouth, obviously not.  To get used to portion control, because that's my biggest problem, I ate all WW foods.  However, after today's discussion, I'm looking at labels and see way, way, WAY more ingredients than five (or even ten), 95% of which I cannot pronounce, hfcs high on the list, artifical this, this and that........need i go on.

WW might have a good points plan, but obviously they don't have a good plan in the way of how they have their foods made.

  • Overall, the food I put into my body is usually well-balanced.

However, I don't eat as often as I should.  I often skip breakfast and sometimes lunch, too.  I don't know why...I just do.

  • I'm knd of middle ground. I love veggies and fruit but I also am a huge carb girl. I could totally live without any meat. I also love junk food though.

I get no excercise other than walking to and from the bus or carrying B's 29 lb butt around the house.

  • Portion control is a big fail for me unless I'm really putting effort in to control myself (and right now I am not).

My food choices are pretty healthy, I'd say. Not amazing by any stretch of the imagination, but pretty good.

  • I have many, many food allergies, including 7 of the top 8 most common food allergies. I also have severe OAS which means I can't eat any raw fruits or vegetables. So with those given situations, I would say I do pretty well... I do still have certain foods that are my weakness and I indulge in more often than I should (Sour Patch Kids, Sour Patch Watermelons, plain Lays potato chips), but it all seems to balance out when you add all that I CAN'T eat. I'm sure I'd eat a lot worse (and I know, because I used to) than I  do now.

    this.

and I'm a carboholic.  So, even though I don't eat a ton of "junk" I still could definitely improve!  I'm pretty careful about keeping processed foods to a minimum here.

  • I am horrible with portion control. I think I just have no concept, plus I'm usually starving after just one serving. While I'm not pg, I usually eat pretty well. It's been hard with my job because I often have little if any time for lunch. I tend to be so hungry when I finally get to eat that I eat way too much. I would be fine if I could eat throughout the day. Now that I'm pg, I pretty much give into all the cravings. Probably why I've gained 15 lbs already. :( I give myself a C for nutrition follow through.

  • chocolate is my downfall!
  • I think I do pretty good--I splurge at times, but I try to not keep things in the house that I don't want the kids eating.
  • I'd give myself a B-. I try to stick to whole foods, lean proteins and whole grains and for the most part I do ok. I have egg whites for breakfast every morning.

I could probably subsist on fruits and vegetables but I don't really cook so I could do a lot better with meals. I rarely, if ever, have fast food but I do eat a few more processed treats than I need to. No frozen meals or anything like that though.

Diet coke is my downfall, but I doubt I'll ever give it up, I love it too much.

  • I guess I'll be the only one to fess up.  I'm a terrible eater.  I eat whole fat dairy.  I like snacks way more than I should.  I eat fruit every day but veggies not so much.  Don't even get me started on bacon.  I also drink regular Coke.  Not diet.  Regular.

I know I'm a terrible eater and that's why I'm fat.  I'm trying to make small changes that I can live with instead of overhaling the who thing and then giving up because I'm hungry and crabby.

  • I eat really well, except that I have a sweet tooth. Sometimes, I'm lazy and eat things like frootloops for dinner though. I love to exercise and am also kind OCD about it.
  • I am not a small person, but I think I eat pretty well. I am a huge, huge veggie and bean person (but I'm not a vegetarian). A typical dinner would be a MASS of broccoli, lentils, onions, mushrooms with a low fat curry sauce. Or a lean turkey chili.

I don't drink soda or a lot of coffee.

But damn, my sweet tooth. If I didn't force myself, I could eat all my WW points in cookies. I don't, but I want to.

I'm usually the fat asss in most of my spin classes (compared to most of the women in my class). I'm the slow one in the tri sprints that I do (and I mean slow, like LAST). runners on the street pass me regularly when I run. but luckily I don't give a crap bc it makes me feel good and that is all that matters to me.

  • I'm very healthy for the most part. Eat well and clean most of the time, work out regularly. My problem is drinking. I drink way too much wine. Stick out tongue
  • I eat pretty well with regards to the meals that I cook, IMO. Lots of whole grains, produce, lean proteins, beans, cooking from scratch, etc.

However- it's what I eat in between meals that is totally my downfall. I might eat a nice dinner of lentils and brown rice- but then late at night while at work scarf down a soda and a Pop-Tart. I also have a problem with drinking too many calories- I've tried so hard but water just doesn't do it for me. I crave soda, juice, sweet tea, coffee w/cream and sugar, etc.

So, if I could just cut out the sugary drinks and junk that I eat in between meals my overall diet would be awesome.
