We live in a rental unit so we can not paint the walls in the nursery (stuck with white) does anyone have any pictures of their white-walled nursery? I thought maybe using black furniture might add some pizazz to the room but am not sure...
I am stuck with white too, but I'm going to ask my landlord again if she would make an exception b/c of the baby! Cross your fingers for me! White walls suck!
Good luck, I am thinking about asking our building manager too but I figure I should wait until I am farther along. It is hard just being stuck with the white, I think the white on white rooms are really nice but we have light brown wood trim, doors, window sills and frames...so the white on white is kind of out.
We are in a rental too, and in our lease it says no paint, but we figured it wouldnt hurt to ask, and suprisingly they said yes. We ended up only painting one wall the wall that the girls cribs will be on, so when we move we will only have the one wall to paint. It cant hurt to ask, everyone loves babies so maybe they will cave like ours did!

I think you could still do mostly whites and creams and it would look really pretty! Use light colored bedding, etc. I personally think that if you go with dark furniture it would make the walls look even more stark and unintentional.
We're in a rental, too, with slightly off-white walls. We went with a natural finish on our furniture and warm pastels, and decorated one wall with alphabet flash cards:

Re: Nursery with white walls, pics anyone?
some of my favorite nurseries have white walls. mine is not (it is silver/grey), but there are a bunch of white ones on my blog page:
