GD Mamas- Breakfast Options??

I have a question regarding possible meals for breakfast with Gestational Diabetes.

I have always had good numbers after having eggs, toast and bacon or sausage... but in the morning before work I can't always make that type of meal.

I have tried Quaker Low-Sugar Oatmeal, and am always "borderline" in the upper 120s or low 130s an hour later.

Do you have any suggestions for other quick breakfasts that may be OK with my numbers?

Thanks so much!

Re: GD Mamas- Breakfast Options??

  • I have a PB&J quite often for breakfast because it's so fast.  I just make sure to use the bread that's about 15g carbs for 2 slices and my numbers are always good.  I can have a glass of milk with that too and still be ok.

  • Peanut butter and crackers

English muffin (whole wheat w/protein added) w/melted cheese on top

Grape Nuts (this might not work for you - there are a lot of carbs - but I only have a half a cup and it seems to work for me) w/soy milk and yogurt

Plain yogurt w/cinnamon added to it

  • I do hard boiled eggs because they 'travel' better - usually a piece of toast with one or two eggs sliced on top, topped with a slice of cheese and melted in micro - that's my 'go-to' breakfast!
  • I've been doing the low sugar oatmeal most weekday mornings too. I found that if I add a hard boiled egg either before or after, it lowers my number by about 10 pts. I make enough at one time to last me a week. They're not my favorite but I look at the same way I look at taking my prenatals, a necessary evil.

  • Peanut butter toast!!!!! and half a banana

I do fine with cereal.. but I take insulin as well

hmmm maybe you can make some sort of breakfast wrap to take with you on a low carb tortilla. Make eggs in advance and get the microwave bacon

This... I use regular bacon, just make it beforehand as well.

This morning I did the Special K Protein Plus cereal... it was so blah and not filling enough for my breakfast but I've heard good things about it?!

  • Honestly, my favorite breakfast on the go that doesn't raise my sugar levels too high is a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread. It's quick, easy and I can eat it in the car lol.
  • I cook my eggs in the microwave, which makes it a lot faster & it's super easy & good! I eat it on toast & if I'm in a hurry I just drink a Special K protein shake which are suprisingly really good, or I eat yogurt as well! But if I'm not in a hurry I eat a bowl of oatmeal or instant grits with my sandwhich! I really like your new pic btw!
