I don't want to know what you plan to do so much as what your pedi said regarding solids at your LO's 4 mo appt. We have our appt tomorrow so I'm wondering if there is a general consensus among pedis or not.
Mine said because DD was having signs of being ready we could start rice cereal... We did it for about a week it hurt her belly and we stopped. I should start back up but ive been too lazy.. HAHAh maybe on monday I will start back up again. I really wanted to do BLW but DH thought it was kind of weird.
she asked me what i was planning, and i told her 6 months. she said she generally recommends 6 months too, but if the baby is "humongous," she thinks 4 or 5 months is ok. she told us that if he seems like he wants it sooner, that is completely fine too. we're going to give him bananas this weekend!
My pedi told me because we were BF it was best to go by the AAP recommendation and wait until 6 months. I agreed.
Ditto. At first our pedi didn't bring it up at all but when DH asked about it (because he is suuuuper eager to start solids) the pedi said he advises that we go the AAP rec'd 6 months of EBF.
We got the ok to go ahead so we have started rice cereal in the past week. He did say that we could wait until 6 months since X is EBF, but he's a pretty big boy so we decided to start the solids at 4 months.
Our pedi gave us the okay to start at 4 months. She rec. starting with rice cereal for 1-2 weeks, then moving to green veggies, then orange veggies, and finally fruit. She told us to wait at least 3 days between each food. We tried rice cereal and it went okay. C didn't seem to love it and it made me realize how messy feeding solids really is. I've decided to wait until 6 months to start solids.
Mine okayed rice cereal at 2 months and at 4 month appt said we could continue cereal and give her more cereal if she is eating 32 oz of bm/formula a day and still not satisfied. He recc veggies starting at 5 months with yellow/orange veggies first.
Pedi opinions seem to be varied quite a bit.

Something like "she can start solids if u want." Start with rice cereal and then veggie, and make sure to feed the same food for 5 days before trying a new food.
We have been to a differnt ped every time so I have advice from three (we moved around) The first ped said 6 months. the second ped said it used to be 4 but now it's 6 so around then depending on the kid. The third one said usually around 6 months but since DS could sit on his own and was trying to get my food all the time we could try and if it went well a new food every three days they didn't say what order but we are though them all.

My pedi is typically has her patients wait till 6 months. At 4months the boys were eating 32oz a day and Landon was on the lowest end of the normal range for his length so she wanted us to add some solids once a day.

Our pedi said we could start "recreational" solids at 4 months So, not eating for the sake of nutrition, just to get a feel for it. We started with rice for a couple weeks, and have now added pear, squash, sweet potato, carrots, and peas (steamed and pressed through a garlic press). She loves eating!!

From a mom of a kid with food allergies - please wait till 6 months. I know it is debated whether or not starting solids early cause the allergies, but why take the chance?
It sucks having to read every frickin label that comes into this house, not feeling secure taking her to a restaurant, having to tell her she can't have something that a friend is eating, I could go on and on. It's not just the food I have to worry about, many beauty products are made with soy and tree nut oil so not only do I have to watch her lotions/shampoo but also the rest of the families. The worst is when she does get a hold of something and is covered in hives and not being able to sleep cause I'm constantly checking on her.
I'm glad someone posted about this. I was curious about the same thing. DD's 4month check-up isn't until the 16th, but it's definitely on my list of questions. I asked about it at her 2 mo. appt, because I was curious. Our pedi said generally rice ceral at 4 months is okay, depending on the baby. He also told me that most babies are nutritionally sustained on BM/Formula until 8-9 months of age, and feeding them solids before that is a good way to "tickle their taste buds" once they have the digestive enzymes to properly digest the food, which could be anywhere between 4-6 months depending on the baby.

Due to food allergies in the family & the AAP we are waiting until at least 6 months to start cereals and from there we probably won't start fruit/veggies until closer to 7 months.
Our doctor said it was okay to start at 4 months, but he had no problem waiting until 6 months, which was our original plan. We have food allergies in the family.
We were given the okay to start as she was showing signs of readiness. Started her on rice cereal a week ago, adding pear and apple here and there. She now eats a little sweet potato, carrot and corn most days. She still has on average 4-6 BM feeds a day.
We talked about it with our pedi at our 4 month appt a week ago, and she suggested that since everything was still going well with BFing and DD isn't overly big or showing signs of wanting solids, that we wait until 6 months. I wanted to do this anyway.
We just went yesterday and he starts all babies at 4 mo. according to the APA. He says that there hasn't been any journals/medical findings saying that waiting any longer really has any benefits. He said rice cereal for a week and then go right to stage 2 foods, which are more economical (a new food each week). We are starting Saturday. I'm so excited! I'm sad, too. My little peanut is growing so fast!
My pedi said he was ready for solids and gave us a sheet with all the information we needed

We got the ok from Pedi to start at 4 months. We did rice cereal for the first month and just last week started some sweet potatoes.
I think you need to do what you think is best and what your doctor recommends. If you disagree quite a bit, maybe it's time to find a doctor that shares your beliefs.
Also, my Mom gave me my first spoonful of cereal at 1 week old. I'm not obese. I don't have food allergies. I'm a pretty healthy person.

Ours said we can start rice cereal. Give her that for 2-3 weeks. Then start with green veggies, then other veggies, then fruits.
We will most likely go with that. I'm not in any huge hurry to give her solids, so we will see.

And DS was 18 lbs. at his 4 month appointment. My pedi said size has nothing to do with when to start solids.

Same here. She said she typically suggests starting solids at 4 mo if the infant appears ready.

Our pedi said to wait until 6months & we EBF. I dont think size has to do with it since ds was 19 lbs 6 ounces at exactly 4months.
