We are doing the Diaper Champ. I find the Diaper Genie to be a pain in the butt and expensive. You have to buy liner refills that add up compared to a since trash bag. Haven't ever noticed a smell issue with the Diaper Champ.
We are doing the diaper champ. I cant stand the diaper genie, when I used to babysit I couldnt stand the diaper genie the family had it was such a pain in the butt to use!
We've got the diaper genie. You just open it and stuff the diaper in (actually, the new ones have a foot pedal, so you just step on the pedal and drop the diaper in)....no twisting required. After using it for a year, I started to notice an odor only when we opened it to remove the full bags. That part is a little disugusting, but when it's all closed up, it's fine. Buying the refills doesn't bother me b/c they sell them at Target and I feel like I'm there all the time, but being able to use regular bags would be nice too!
I bought a safety first pail. It costs $15 right now I bought it for $6 on clerance at target a few years ago. It worked better then the champ and genie my sisters used.

Ditto this. I'm going the cheap/simple route, but for us our outside trash is easily accessible for frequent emptying and for critical Category 5 diaper disasters.
We use the Diaper Genie cause SO wouldnt have anything else. It works fine for us. Its very easy to empty the bag, I dont understand how people think its difficult. Theres a foot pedel so you dont have to touch anything. To change it you just flip it open and theres a "cutter" in there to slice the bag. Its incredibly simple. People make things out to be wicked difficult just because its not like their trash can in the kitchen. It contains the smell really well and the refills last a good while. Its only 6 bucks, people probably spend more on lattes on the way to work.
We have registered for the diaper genie and we watched a video on youtube on how you can use your regular kitchen bags with the diaper genie you just have to have one of the blue ring refills. It shows you how to make it work with the regular trash bags. I'm sure we will just continue buying the refills but it's nice to know there is another option.
We bought the Champ based on Baby Bargains' reviews, and the fact we can use regular kitchen trash bags. We've been very happy with it.
I have the BB book and the Champ was rated pretty poorly unless I'm looking in the wrong area. People on the BRU website also rated it bad also. The Diaper Genie Elite was rated really good though. Was rated an A in the BB book...

We have the Diaper Genie and the only complaint we have is the refills...but PP is so right....people spend more on lattes every day.
NEVER had a smell issue with it, easy to use...and I hate that people complain that when they OPEN it to empty it it smells....well DUH. If you open up any diaper disposal system it's going to smell...the idea is to control odor in the meantime.

This! NO TWISTING with the Diaper Genie II. I think the older versions had this but the newer diaper genies are very easy to use! https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3092075
