Sippy cup vs straw cups

I know you're supposed to start with the sippy cup, but DD really cant get anything out of it. Then I tried her with a straw from my cup of water and she did just fine. Any one know if there is anything wrong with just skipping the sippy cup and going to the baby straw cups? I think this could be a silly question......

    same here! L uses the playtex drop ins and she formed her own lazy system of not tilting the bottle just sucking it like a vacuum, so she is already so good w/ the straw!

    I am not sure, but DS started with a straw cup and does great.  We started him at 9months.

    we use straw cups, ds never got the tipping back thing so we just went to straw cups and he did fine, there's no reason they need to have a sippy cup before a straw cup

    haha DD does this too!!! Especially if she's really fusy in the car so we give her a bottle

    I bought DS one of each and I'm trying both of them out to see which one he likes best.  I would definitely buy a cheap one to try.

    there is not a specific reason to have to have a sippy cup. The straw ones are actually better for them (doesn't harbor bacteria, helps mouth/teeth development). I'm not against regular sippy cupsbor anything, just stating what I've read.
