"Is it ok to call Daddy names?"

Thats what Pumpkin asked on the way home yesterday.  Surprise  That was a shocker.  I asked her what kind of names she was thinking about calling him and she replied, "Oh, I don't know... How about Dork-Vader?"  I about lost it.  It took all I had not to bust out laughing.  I explained to her that I want her to be honest with her feelings and that whatever she says about her father was safe with me, but its not ok to call someone names.  Inside I was laughing my @ss off!

  • Good for Pumpkin!  Kids are so honest!  You should have told her about your name for him-Douchebag is similar to Dork Vader!

  • I wouldn't have been able to hold it in! Good for you though. Kids say the darnest things.

LMAO!   The thing about kids is no matter how much we encourage them to have a relationship with their dads, they will eventually be old enough to see things as they really are and call a spade a spade.

    mhm. I agree.

I wish I felt this were more true.  The trouble is that even when people try to hide their feelings for the ex, kids sense it.  Kids learn the world through the eyes of their parents and tend to want to protect the hurt parent.  I am watching this happen with a friend and I don't think she understands that her son is saying bad things about his father to make his mother happy.
