My understanding is the risk is similar to lunchmeat. Like lunchmeat, the risk is listeria, which is pretty rare, but still a risk. So if you feel comfortable with lunchmeat, then I'd go ahead and eat lox from a reputable source. If you don't feel comfortable eating lunchmeat, then skip the lox.

I think Rose is right on when she says "reputable source." This is my OBGYN's line when it comes to lunchmeat - reputable deli, eat within 2 days. It's certainly worth running by your OB though.
