What am I missing Ladies?

Also on Babies: 0-3 months

Hello

I am buying things for my daugther and have so much already but I don't want to forget anything.

I am not having a baby shower so we are buying the majority of the things she needs.

These are the things I already have:

Carriage

Car Seat

High Chair

Swing

Bassinett

Diaper Bag

Floor Mat (Gym)

A Ton of Crib Sheets (about 10 or so - so cheap and on sale at Target)

3 Bassinett Sheets

Breathable Bumper

Crib Skirt

Crib Blanket

I am going to breastfeed, but I brought a set of the drop in bottles plus the refills

Nipples

Newborn gowns

Newborn to size 3 month teeshirts. (the ones that open on the side)

A few pairs of socks

3 Towels

Washclothes

Onzies (sp?) all different sizes, from 0 months to 9 months

2 blankets

2 newborn hats

Feeding Pillow - the boppy (with cover)

Lots of bibs

Stuff that I know I need:

Crib (which is being ordered in the next week or so... my parents gift)

Mattress (also being ordered in the next week or so)

Dresser

Bath Tub

The saucer thing (that the baby plays in)

Crib Toy (the under the water thing)

Monitor - which I was waiting specifically for closer to the date because I would hate for it not to work since I won't be using it for a little while

The baby sleep positioner

Things that I was NOT planning on buying.

That chair that you put your baby in-I forgot the name of that chair.

a Bouncer

A breast pump, I didn't want to pump, but have her directly to the breast.

Ladies what am I missing? Any suggestions? I don't want to forget anything.

P.S. I know I have to get diapers, bath wash, wipes, etc. Which I will when we get closer to the date.....

Re: What am I missing Ladies?

  • Um...I think you're set!

FYI: you don't "need" an exersaucer, sleep positioner, or a crib toy. LO wouldn't be able to use the exersaucer until he/she is a bit older, say 4 or 5 months so if you do end up wanting one, you have time to get that. Sleep positioners are not absolutely necessary for newborns because they can't turn over anyway, and once they can, it defeats the purpose. Crib toy...your child won't miss it. :) Just don't feel like you "have" to have those things...they are optional! Also, instead of a bathtub you could get a cheaper bath sponge. Have you read Baby Bargains?

You may find you want a bouncer. It will be much easier to move around the house than a swing or a bassinett.

Question: you don't want to pump breastmilk but you have bottles anyway? Are you going to supplement with formula? I'm sorry, I found that confusing.

Sounds like you have just about everything you need though! GL!

I brought bottles, just in case for some reason breastfeeding doesn't work and I need to buy formula.....

  • My friends' babies love the Taggies blankets - they're soft, and babies love grabbing the tags - helps build their dexterity.

This is a ways away for you - but Sippie Cups are a definite must - one of the genius inventions!

As for socks, one of my friends with baby twin girls swears by Old Navy socks - they're the only ones that stay on for little feet (hers were miracle babies - they were born 23 weeks, and only by grace of God and the parents' unbelievable tenacity, courage and strength did the girls make it - now they are gorgeous and thriving!).

I also just saw the most amazing baby "chair" - it's cloth and fits over the back of any chair including ones with posts or smooth or rounded backs, and holds the baby snugly in (holes for legs). It's called Totseat. Not sure if that's a "need" category but it's definitely cool!

  • Maybe some more blankets? I used them a lot with DD. Also, i agree with previous poster -- bouncy chairs are so worth the money!

  • SwaddleMe's from Babies-R-Us. You really should not use blankets in a crib or pack-n-play (SIDS risk), and these are great to keep a baby warm and swaddled. Buy 1 or 2 and if they like being swaddles, you can always get more.

I also recommend a carrier (Ergo for when they are older) and a moby or wrap carrier for when they are younger/newborns.

  • burp cloths

(i hate the store-bought ones, especially the flannel ones - they are way too narrow and non-absorbant.  The spit-up just slides off those down your shirt..... yick) I have mostly used cloth pre-fold diapers with my 1st DD, this time i will simply use 4-5 old (soft, faded but in good shape) hand towels as burp cloths.

I think you got everything else covered

  • Wow that is awesome! You are super organized *note to self* make a list like this!

  • My brother swwears by Swaddlers and Sleepsacks for my nephew. So I'd add a few of those to your list too.

  • Just an FYI about the breast pump, if you do end up BF'ing, you will at some point want a pump.  I think it's a good idea to not buy one until you know for sure if it's going to work for you, but just keep it in the back of your mind.  If you need one early on, you can rent one from the hospital.
  • I don't see a stroller on there - unless it's just me!

IMO-- Agreed-- unless you are ALWAYS going to be there for your baby to feed-- you will at least want a manual pump to have something on hand. You might want the occasional night out, you know! But, I think you're okay waiting until you see if it works for you.
