My hubby is a bit on the shy/private side & I ended up having to "assist" him with his SA sample last month - lucky for us we can do it at home since we live 15 min from the clinic.
My question to you all is have any of you used intercourse to help provide your sample for IUI rather than um....
using just your/his hand!? Do you know if doing it that way will skew the SA results? I have called the nurse at my RE's office to ask her & haven't heard back yet so thought you lovely ladies might know the answer!?
We have our 1st IUI tomorrow morning so I'm not wanting to screw the "sample" up ![]()
TIA!
Re: ? about collecting "sample"
I'm pretty sure the rule is no sex or oral sex for the collection.
Your pups are adorable!!
I read that good ol' fashion intercourse is a way to get a sample but you have to use special condoms.
i hope its ok for me to respond with my ticker....
first of all: I am in love with your dogs. they are gorgeous!
secondly: we almost always collected via sterile condom. our andrology lab was able to supply us with them. you should definitely ask... the sterile condom allowed us to collect with intercourse, since doing it the regular way was really never an option for DH. it may skew the results (i.e. if not everything in the condom gets into the collection cup - depending on the kit you use), but i've also heard that a sample produced under less stress via intercourse is better than one produced by hand (especially if the guy is stressed or anxious about it). did your SA results come back normal? if so, then I really don't think a sterile condom would make or break your IUI counts. and, even if they came back a bit low, we got higher post-wash counts with a condom than we did with DH's S/A, collected by hand.
hope that's helpful!
Because we're fancy like that.
this.
Glad you can do it from home, that at least takes off some of the pressure. Good luck
And I agree- cute pups!!
I also wanted to add- no lube either.
no lube, no saliva, no sex. (no fun- haha)
Our RE actually only had a few, and eventually ran out b/c we used all of them.
So we found another independent andrology lab nearby and called them, and they were able to sell them to us, even though we weren't patients.    I'm sure you could hunt them down on the internet, too...
Because we're fancy like that.
hahahahaha
Hope you don't have to IVF. While I was having my eggs retrieved, DH had to go down the hall and do his part.
But I think seeing me having a minor procedure done made him step up to the plate and not complain.
Clean hands only--no lube, saliva, anything.
DH had to produce his sample AT the office. Talk about pressure! And it was a 6 week wait to get in to use the special andrology room (ick!). Anyway, I went with him and the lady at the desk told us, "Since you are with him, remember--no fluids". That was her tactful way of saying no mouth, lube, or intercourse. For some reason it REALLY cracked me up. Especially because the room was gross--no soap, no paper towels, dried drops of things on the floor, and a leather sofa that I would NEVER touch. It was anything but a place I would want to get it on in.
LOL - thanks ladies! Some of your responses are cracking me up
Thank you for all the sweet comments on our bulldogs! That is Millie & Bentley & they are awesome
Ladychicago - love your bully also! Such a sweet face!
*kendrick* - that room sounds awful
 talk about killing "the mood"
sw_in_kc - do you live in the KC area? my hubby graduated from KU & we are huge fans too
 rock chalk jayhawk
FYI: for hubby's SA the first time, we had intercourse to get the job done & his SA came back w/in normal limits so I guess it didn't effect anything! Will attempt the "saliva/intercourse-free" method in the morning & shoot for the best....no pun intended

Thx for your responses!
