anyone have an amino done to check lung development before being induced?

My dr is talking about inducing me the 15th of feb my orginal due date is March 2.  Ive had bad siatiatic the entire time, have been going to physical therapy since 15 weeks.  So this is why they are talking about inducing.

Anyhow he wants to make sure that her lungs are developed before inducing.  He talked about having an amnio done next friday would get the results back the same day and if her lungs were developed taking her on the 15th or 16th. 

Just wondering if anyone else has had this done and if they had any advice.

I dont understand why they would do an amnio at 37 weeks. If they induce me on the 16th i would be 38 weeks.

    I haven't had that, but I think it's to protect themselves since most OBs will not induce or c/section before 39 weeks unless there's an emergency.

    OBs are no longer "allowed" to induce or do c-sections before 39 weeks unless they are medically indicated.  There have been many cases in the past where they take a 38 weeker for "convenience" of the mom or doctor or whatever and then the baby ends up in NICU because the lungs weren't ready.  They haveto cover their butts by doing the amnio now.  It's going to protect your baby so I wouldn't complain about it too much.

    Right. My son was born at exactly 37w, and had zero issues, no need for NICU or problems breathing or anything. It's probably fine, they just want to be safe.

    The doctor just wants to cover his/her own butt against a possible malpractice claim by you.  You can always choose to refuse the amnio.
