My cold is getting worse, not better and I can hardly breathe, which means I'm not sleeping at all and I need sleep to a) get better and b) get through a full day with a toddler while DH is OOT. My dr. said regular Sudafed was fine, but the pharmacy tech gave me a hard time about it and when I looked it up online it said to avoid while PG, but the only meds I find recommended for cough and cold are to relieve cough symptoms and while I have a cough, the congestion is my major symptom. Benedryl is another option, but it makes me too drowsy to take during the day. So, long-winded explanation, but question is:
What meds did your dr. okay for nasal congestion during pregnancy? Did he/she say Sudafed was ok during pregnancy?
Re: Sudafed while PG?
Sudafed is a Class C drug, so while my OB said it was "probably ok," I was not comfortable taking it.
Have you tried steam? Heat some water until it is steaming then sit with a towel over your head while you breath the steam in, or turn the shower on and steam up your bathroom. Also try a wearm/hot compress over the sinus areas that are most stuffed up.
Yeah, I've been trying "natural" remedies since Sat. and I'm still getting worse. Steam helps only while I'm in it, then 5 min. later I'm back to where I was before...
hmmm....we used to have a back massager somewhere, maybe I'll have to dig that out and give it a try.
i was ok'd to take Sudafed (just the plain/regular one) while PG. It is pretty safe from my understanding.
Hope you feel better soon!
My doc okayed it with my last pregnancy, actually she recommended it for my headaches. I can't take those kinds of meds even not pg (make me really loopy and my heart race so I don't take them).
I had a horrible, awful cold within two days of finding out I was pregnant this time. It was miserable!! I was going to recommend a neti pot as well, kind of icky but I know plenty of people who use them all the time (not PG) because they prefer a more holistic approach and everyone says it works well.
