Face issues- Advice please!

Hey Ladies-

I have been having major acne issues lately and I am going nuts about it. I know that the prenatals will eventually help with this, but I need some relief. I tried to make a dermatologist appt but they are scheduling out to April.

I have used everything (Proactive, Dermalogica, Bioelements, etc) and nothing works. Is there a face soap you reccomend? I am about to go back to just regular old face soap and see what happens. This morning my face was red and very irritated. The acne is mostly at my chin area.

Thanks ladies!

  • It's probably due to the hormone surge you are going through right now.  Hopefully it will improve on its own soon.  I recall having similar issues early in my pregnancy, but otherwise my skin was great.

  • Since it sounds hormonal due to pregnancy, I believe there is very little you can do. I would advise you to check some of the ingredients in the products you use, such as Proactive though. I know there are some topical acids you are warned to stay away from during pregnancy. Also, I don't know how much a dermatologist would be able to do while you're pregnant. I know that retin-a and accutane are both big no-no's during pregnancy. Hopefully they will have some other ideas. Early in my pregnancy, I had a few flare ups but they have since gone away. Hormones are raging in your first trimester.

This.  I merely used Cetaphil, while pregnant, and waited for the crazy hormones to balance out.  Smile

  • Thanks ladies. I think I am just going to go get a basic soap until it controls itself.

:) This is why i love these boards! You guys are so helpful!

  • Actually a derm can give you an topical antibiotic cream that is perfectly safe for pregnancy if it's really bothering you.  Not be gross... but I was getting the kind of acne that feels like a marble under your skin... those big cyst things...they weren't all that noticeable but they hurt so bad!! The antibiotic cream helped a lot.
  • ditto all of the previous posts! It's a waiting game

  • I went to a dermo while I was nursing.  There really isn't much they can do for you while you're pregnant or nursing.  I was told to wash my face with Ivory soap and use 1% hydrocortisone creme because they couldn't do anything medically for me until I was done nursing.

The best thing I found was just cleansing twice a day with Witch Hazel.

    Good luck, it sucks.

  • You must be one of the unlucky ones like me.  I've had a face straight out of junior high since I've been pregnant.  You read about these women that have beautiful "glowing" skin when they're pregnant....it's just not fair!  I just wash with Cetaphil.  I know it will go away because I never had this problem prior to pregnancy.  My fact has cleared up a lot since the late 2nd/early 3rd trimester if that's any consolation.

  • I had issues on my chin while pregnant too...and unfortunately, it continued well after DD arrived.  Someone on this board mentioned Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap and I started using that on my face in the a.m.  I believe peppermint is a natural antibacterial.  I can usually find it in Kroger's health food section or my local health food store.  I also use erythromycin topical solution twice a day.  I could have used it during pregnancy too but the smell really got to me and I just couldn't do it (I was super sensitive to scents while pregnant).  Anyway, the combination of these two things has done wonders for my skin!

  • i had horrible acne throughout my whole pregnancy.  unfortunately for me, nothing really helped.  it cleared up on it's own about two months after giving birth.
