Mon or Weds start? Opinions please : )

I'm currently scheduled to go back to work on a Monday. A fellow co-worker (who's due at the end of Feb) said she was going to go back to work on  a Weds so that the 1st week back with daycare/leaving her child isn't so hard...I could ask my boss to come back on Weds instead of Mon so that week is shorter...would that really help? What do you think? I know that leaving DD at daycare is going to be difficult for a bit...TIA!Smile

  • I think it does help if it's your first time going back to work after a baby.  The first week will be exhausting and you'll be glad it's short.  I went back on a Monday the 2nd time and it was fine.  But, started on a Tuesday the 1st time and was glad it was a short week.

  • I have heard that does help a lot ( I went  back part time for the first two months). Starting on a Monday and staring down 4 more days could seem daunting.

  • I can see the benefit of starting on a Wednesday, so if you can, go ahead.  That being said, I started on a Monday, and it was fine.

I think it's more important that you do a couple of trial runs with your daycare than what day you start.  I dropped DS off two mornings the week before I went back, so he and I could start to get adjusted.  It was easier for me to leave him the whole day the first day I was back, because we'd already done it for a half day twice.  See if that's an option for you.

  • Definitely start on Wednesday instead!  My first I came back on a Wednesday and my second I came back on a Thursday.  It made it a lot easier knowing I just had to get through 2 or 3 days and then I would get two whole days with my baby!  I also only came back half days for the first two weeks which was even better.  I only had to get through 4 hours for a few days.  It's easier to ease into it IMO.

  • Wednesday is two days closer to the weekend.  I vote for Wednesday.
  • I also recommend the Wednesday start. I would also bring your LO in on Monday or Tuesday for a half day while you pamper yourself (or just run errands and grab a coffee). The gradual transition and the short week will be easier on you both!

  • If you have the time and your comapny will let you, I definitely think a Wed. start will be easier.  That being said I went back on a Monday and did no trial runs or anything (I didn't want to share Billy until I had to) and we both adjusted fine.
