Did stripping your membranes work?

My doctor plans to strip my membranes tomorrow if I am dilated at all.  I have a coworker whose water broke when her doctor did that on her due date.  Now, while I am not anticipating that happening, did anyone here go into real labor after been "stripped"?

Re: Did stripping your membranes work?

  • Yes!

Doc stripped mine when I was four days overdue.  She gave me like 48 hrs to go into labor once she stripped them or we would induce with medicine. I went into labor the next night.

  • I was two weeks late for my home birth and my back up doctor had said that if I didn't have the baby within a couple of days we would have to induce.  My mid wife stripped my membranes and I went into labour that night. It worked for me:)
  • Mine were stripped on a Monday, 5 days after I was due. I went into labour on that Thursday morning, admitted into hospital 24 hours later, and ended up having bab early in the am Saturday.

Stripping membranes is one of those things...only really works if your body is ready.

  • My membranes were stripped about 1.5 weeks before I went into labor and almost a full 2 weeks before was due.  Yeah, I know, I have no idea why she did it either.  My MW was on vacation and for some unknown reason the sub that I saw decided to strip my membranes without even telling me.

  • The second time around it worked....I was a week overdue!
  • Yes! Mine were stripped at my 39 week appointment. I went into labor that night and had Ryan the next day!

  • Yes, I believe it worked for me. We went to L&D for a false alarm on a Thurs night, she stripped my membranes and sent us home. We were back again 24 hours later on Friday night in full blown labor - baby born Saturday AM...

I was 3 days past due.

  • My doctor stripped mine on a Monday afternoon.  I went into labor around 1:30am on Tuesday morning and he was born that night.

  • Doc stripped mine on a Monday afternoon and although it increased contractions..i didn't go into labor until the next Monday.
  • I was 39 weeks and one cm dilated when my midwife stripped my membranes. It hurt SO bad, and like your friend, she ended up breaking my water and I had my DD the next day! Big Smile My MW said that that RARELY happens, and I was actually the first person that she had ever seen..so good luck, whatever your results, but be prepared, because it HURTS!

  • Nope. Though it did help me dilate and efface.

  • Yes! I had mine stripped at my 39 and 40 week appointment even though it took almost a week of early labor signs I went into labor and had my baby boy!
  • Yes. ?The 2nd time. ?Once doctor did it on my due date and nothing happened (though it didn't feel like she did anything). ?Another one of my doctor's did it four days later and I really felt it! ?I was in labor by the evening and delivered the next day.

?Just depends if your body is ready or not.?
