Anyone else overwhelmed about furniture options for the nursery? I'm trying to decide whether to get a crib/changer combo, or a dresser/changing table combo, or separates... What's everyone else thinking? What brands are good?
We are doing a crib and a dresser. We're turning the top of the dresser into a changing table with a changing pad. All my friends have said a specific changing table is a waste of money.
i spent a small fortune on my sons set.. and am happy i got a convert. crib so it can be used for years to come. i just bought another conv. set from jcp that was on sale for such a good price.. im not cheap, but hate not getting my moneys worth.. i didnt buy a changer, just used the long dresser. it was convenient having all his stuff right there. ill be doing the same again. hth
I was going to do the whole using a dresser as a changing table combo thing, but then we found a changing table that matched our set perfectly at Target on clearance for $16 - so I ended up with both. It was a great deal and I'm sure I'll appreciate the storage, but between the crib, dresser, changing table, armoire, and a comfy chair the room is definitely full - and we have a fairly large nursery - so space is definitely something to consider when deciding.
I've heard from several mommy friends that the changer was more expensive than what it's worth. You can buy a curved pad on Amazon and just turn your dresser top into a changing table. Thats what I'm going to do. 20 bucks seems alot better of an option to me than 100.
Convertible crib and the long dresser/changer combo. I did get the dresser/changer kind that has the guard rails that can be screwed off--so it's really quite like a changing table. It only cost us a few extra bucks where we got it.
Honestly, don't even stress about it! I was so overwhelmed before but I feel like everything's falling into place. I have 10 weeks to go and I am pretty sure good when it comes to the nursery.
It will work out!

For DS we only had a changing table and no dresser. ?All of his clothes were in his closet. ?
For baby #2 we will have a changing table and dresser. ?
Our decision was based on what just fell in place. ?Someone gave us a changing table last time that matched our crib and we didn't have a need for a dresser. ?This time my mom has already gotten the full set for baby #2 and it has both so we will use both. ?DS still uses his changing table and we are getting him a dresser now for his big boy room since we are moving and he will more than likely not have a huge walk in closet like he did at our last place. ?
We are also using CD now and will be for baby #2 and will like the space on the changing table for CD storage. ?That way we won't be using up dresser spce or have to find another solution for the CDs.
It is overwhelming! We ordered ours this weekend. Ended up getting the crib from Wal-Mart because it was cheaper and had good reviews. There aren't any stores that carry cribs near here, and the boutiques an hour away only carry stuff that we could afford if we won the lottery. I hate buying something that I've not seen, but it had $0.97 shipping and we can return it to the store if we don't like it.
