So I was elated when I got the phone call yesterday with the results of my 1 hour glucose test...I scored a 131, with 139+ being a failure and I was feeling pretty darn proud of myself. Then, today, I get the blood test results back in the mail from our life insurance exam and my total cholesterol is 308! I will be calling my doctor tomorrow to find out what to do about this but was wondering if pregnancy somehow increases cholesterol? I know it sounds crazy, but I eat so well and normally have very normal levels. Yikes!
Re: Holy Cholesterol Batman!
Cholesterol is not routinely tested during pregnancy because it increases dramatically and doesn't give any valuable information.
Mine was 330 last time I checked. Don't worry about it until post-partum and do not take and cholesterol lowering drugs.
(But feel free to lay off the doughnuts and red meat :-)
Wash that thang!
Yes, your cholesterol can imcrease dramatically in the last trimester. Make sure your insurance company knows you are pregnant - they probably have underwriting guidelines for third trimester pregnancy. I would find out what your rate is and if they have better available - if you don't get the best rate ask to see if you can have a reconsideration a couple months post partum.
