Interesting tidbit of information for anyone who cares:
There are a number of emerging legal issues concerning internet research of online subjects and communities when done without proper informed consent.
I'm no mod, but if I found out that a member was misrepresenting herself as a member of the community when (s)he was actually doing research on internet message boards, I would want to cover my butt and ban said member.
I know I never signed an informed consent to be a part of any research done by an anonymous member.

That requires that I publish by name any member that I research. I don't need consent to do a general case study or even write an article using non-specific message boards.
Consent is only required if I publish any of it. That being said, I would hope that my research might encourage people to be more aware of their behavior.
I am not misrepresenting myself as anything. I am a member of all three sister sites and I do plan to TTC in 2011. It just so happens that this site has unwittingly made it into my research. I originally was doing it with regards to teenagers. I never dreamed that a place for adults would render itself so easily to my needs.
Too bad that by coming onto a message board and intentionally starting drama you're screwing up your own research. That's like a real scientist tweaking an experiment to get the results she wants and reporting it as a natural occurence.

as I have said before I never started drama. I have never name-called, abused or hurt anyone with my words on this site. As I see it, there are members of these boards that have responded negatively to my very existence.
This is beyond my control and as a newbie in a message board that fits right into my research hypothesis. That is, go into a new place and be yourself. Be polite and see what happens. I have repeatedly ask for respect and general niceties be observed. I have been forcefully rebuffed, verbally abused and generally made unwelcome. That too is beyond my control and as such doesn't violate the integrity of my research at all.
I didn't intentionally set out to cause any drama and I have tried to quell the uprising and abuse at every turn. I have attempted to extend olive branches. I even posted an apology to no avail.
There is only so many times one can apologize for imagined slights. I mean no harm and I am amazed that this has snow-balled the way that it has. Its time to grow up folks.
Please accept my apologies for any wrong-doing. I'm sorry that I am not universally accepted here and that there are those that wish me ill. I am only in control of my actions. Therefore, I can say that it stops when you want it to.

Actually, it doesn't relate only to specifically naming people. Being as this is probably all part of your senior year hs psych class paper, it's not "real" science, but there are a lot of people (including the AAAS, American Association for the Advancement of Science) that would argue the grey areas of internet based research.
Studies have shown psychological harm to participants that were researched without their knowledge, even with the researcher having changed the identities of the quoted. There is a certain culture of privacy in an online community that would lend itself to arguement that human subjects, even what could be considered "anonymous" ones, in low risk studies, deserve the rights of informed consent.
As I stated, it's all grey area right now, but there are emerging legal issues about collecting information from the online community without proper researcher identification and informed consent.

Once a few months ago I stated what I did for a living, and it caused some confusion.
I am not going anywhere. Play nice and all will resolve itself. I have every right to be here as much as you. You do not own this board and no amount of abuse will persuade me. You have options. Ignore me (I recommend this, but as it stands I don't think you are capable of this) or be pleasant and enjoy the boards.
I will do the same but I would politely request that the belligerent, nasty and catty behavior come to an end. I will not play the game and return fire. I will not sink to that level. I will do what I have done all day and just be myself.
So please, don't waste anymore time on me. It is fruitless to plead with me to go away. Just be. NFT.
