Babies: 9 - 12 Months

No corn? Weird solid meal ingredients?

Since we're on the subject of baby food combos (meat), have you heard no corn before 12 months?  Well, watch out because I was checking out the labels on and one one Gerber and one Earth's Organic meal it contained corn.  One was called "Summer Vegetable Dinner".  I am so glad I read the labels.  Some of these meals contain onions and I just don't want to go there yet (gas).

  • Corn is like wheat.  Some people avoid it until 12 months, but lots of kids eat it well before then with no issues.  The only things I avoid after about 6ish months were strawberries, citrus, nuts, honey and eggs.  I introduced citrus around 8 months, same with strawberries, and egg yolk at 9 months (hold off on whites until 12 months).  Everything else I don't worry about too much. Ben now eats what we eat except nuts, honey and egg whites (and dairy, bc he has an allergy, but otherwise I'd do cheese and yogurt too by around 7/8 months).

  • I'm not worried about corn.
  • shane has been eating corn a long time.  some people do, some people don't.  not a big deal IMO

  • I think some people wait on corn for more of choking issues rather than allergy issues.

  • I thought corn was okay before 12 mo...no? I know it is mixed in with quite a few of the Gerber stage 2 food. Hmmmmmm.

the only place I have ever heard to wait is wholesome baby food, which i personally don't consider it the bible on feeding babies.

  • Dr only told us to stay away from nuts, honey, egg whites, and citrus. We are also avoiding all exotic/tropical fruits (apricots, avocado, mango, etc., and nuts) because DH has a sever allergy to them and needs to inject himself with an epipen if he even comes in contact with any of these things!

  • they tell you no corn because there is a lack of nutritional value, and its a choking hazard (obviously in its whole form).  Other than that.. its fine
