Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Do you wake your babies from naps?

Or let them sleep until they wake?  We've always limited LO's naptime but since he sleeps so poorly at night, I'm wondering if I shouldn't let him sleep more during the day to make sure he's not over tired.

What do you do?

  • Never wake a sleeping baby.  I like to stick with that rule of thumb.  If they are sleeping they are tired.

    ditto

  • I never do unless I have to take my son to karate or something.  DD sleeps much better at night when she naps well during the day.  I would never wake her as a way to limit her naptime.
  • DH puts her down when they get home from daycare (DD will not nap at daycare so she's wiped out when they get home. I wake her around 6:30 to feed her, play a little bit, then she goes to bed at 8-8:30. So I guess to answer your question, Yes I do.

  • only if we have somewhere to be.

VERY rarely though....i try to plan accordingly to avoid waking him up!

  • I would never, ever try to limit her naps.

I've only woken her up a few times in her life.  All of them were when she was sleeping too late and we had somewhere we absolutely had to be (like an appointment with her pediatrician).

If she's sleeping, I figure she needs it!

(Sometimes she'll sleep late, which means she goes to bed late.  But even then I don't wake her -- I just figure she'll go to bed later and sleep later the next morning.)

  • The ONLY time I wake DS from naps is if I have no choice.  Examples:  must leave the house for doctor's appointment or other equally important event, to bring him inside the house from the car (he likes to nap on the drive home from grandpa's).  Otherwise...I NEVER wake a sleeping baby!

  • we have only woken DD from a nap a few times, and that was only bc we had somewhere to be.
  • I'm not sure why you would wake them?  The only time I do is when I have a scheduled appt somewhere and we need to leave the house.

  • I usually let her sleep as long as she wants. The only exception is if we have to be somewhere or if her afternoon nap runs past 5:00, which hardly ever happens. If she takes a monster nap in the am, she will sometimes skip her pm nap, which is fine with me.

  • i never wake him. if he napped more than 2 hours or so, i might, but that has never been a problem.
  • This question doesn't apply to me because this kid doesn't nap.
