  The Jenny McCarthy thing got me thinking. I was talking to my friends in the medical field and they didn't have answers about the autism link but mentioned that we could request vaccines w/o thimerosal. I'm going to ask about it at her 4mo appt.

  this. DDs' pedi practice will only order the preservative-free ones.

  For flu shots, they won't give the regular ones to kids until 5 (? or some age) and only give preservative-free.

  from the CDC:

  •  The preservative thimerosal has been removed from vaccines with the exception of multi-dose influenza
  • Multi-dose vials of influenza vaccine contain thimerosal as a preservative
  • Danish cases of autism rose substantially after thimerosal was removed in 1992 (AJPM 8/2003)
  • Education on the lack of scientific support for thimerosal as a causative agent of autism is as necessary as ever

  The only vaccine that contains thimerisol is the flu vaccine.  It has been removed from all others.  Also, FWIW, you can get the flu vaccine without thimerisol too, you may have to special request that one.
