How do you deal with tattle tales

If my children tattle about things that really do not matter I act as if they have not told me anything and just say that is nice. It works great with my kids but OMG they have company right now and one little boy is driving me insane. He has come up to the back porch four times in less than ten minutes, they are making fun of me, they are not playing with me, they will not let me slide. I am sitting right here and can see and hear the entire thing, they are playing with him and not making fun of him. It is more that the kids are not playing what he wants to play so he is "making things up" to tell on them about.

It does not help that he has one of those voices that he sounds like he is whining even when he is talking normal. He is five years old but very immature for his age. I have nine kids in my back yard right now from the ages of 4 to 6 and he is driving me up the wall.

Re: How do you deal with tattle tales

  • tell him to use his words and tell them.
  • Loading the player...
  • I redirect them to tell their friends/siblings how they feel.  So, if they came to me and say "DD isn't playing with me," I tell DS to go to her and tell her that you'd like to play with her and you're feeling sad.  I think DS tattles mostly b/c he doesn't know what to do about the situation.  My neice is like this too.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • Now he is kicking. I guess this means I should take him home.
