Hey ladies, first let me say thank you so much for all of the support, this was not an easy decision at first but we are now excited about adopting & ttc.
So this weekend we busted ass getting the place clean, any part of our house that could be dusted and washed were, plus all the liquor & wine are now in a storage bin in the basement. We got rid of a lot of stuff we really didn't need and ended up filling all 3 of our garbage bins and our recycling bin that I actually went to the house next door that no one is living in and took their recycling bin, filled it up and put it back at empty house along with 1 of our filled garbage bins so we didn't look so obvious like we only clean when someone is coming over!
I even joked with H that we should have a home visit once a month because we finally replaced one of the bedroom's broken door and then decided while we were at it to replace a door in the kitchen and the closet in the computer/hopefully-one-day-to-be baby's room. I was extremely stressed and apparently pms-ing with was not a good mix. I wasn't worried about the visit itself, more about the house. I guess I just had this fear that a birth mom wouldn't consider us because we don't live in a huge mansion-like house like a lot of the profiles I have seen online, we are in a modest house, under 1000 sq ft in a neighborhood that is nothing like it use to be so my thought process was if we could make this look like the freaking cleanest, cutest house that we would really stand a chance. Funny thing is H brought that up to our adoption counselor and she said that a lot of BM's look at a lot more things than just your house, that the majority of them pick birthparents based on something they have in common with and that really put us at ease.
We absolutely love our adoption counselor, I even gave her a big hug when she was leaving, she is just the sweetest woman and you can tell her 1st priority is the welfare of the children. She shared a lot of stories with us and answered all of our questions (including that we are allowed too ttc while going through the process but if we did have a biological baby we would have to put the adoption on hold for at least 12 months before we were eligible to adopt). Our next home visit is 2/12.
Oh and btw, she never even left the living room during her visit!
Re: Our adoption home visit - long
We are going through Catholic Social Services in MI and also a Native-American agency out-of-state since H is NA and we are eligible.
She will be the one who comes back for the visit.
That sounds like a great visit
And YAY on the clean house

This Momma's Journey
~Today I am pregnant and I love my baby~
She loved the dogs...even Molly who was acting especially needy that day like no one pays attention to her! We kept them in the kitchen most of the time with the baby gate up.
ditto. LOL about having monthly visits, Maybe this will move our husbands butts to fix more things around the house.
So happy to hear that everything went great and that you now have a de-cluttered house! Was the birth mom there?
I wish you the best of luck, I think its so wonderful you are adopting!
