OB/GYN in Towson?

I anticipate being discharged from my RE who is at GBMC today and I need to make my first visit with my OB/GYN. I currently have a doctor who is located at St.Josephs but I will deliver at GBMC and she does deliveries there, too. The problem is that I'm not convinced I want her as my OB. She's been a good GYN but I know 3 moms with a total of 4 kids who have all had her as a doc and she has delivered all 4 as a c-section which is not my plan. Obviously if we need a c-section we'll have one but it's not my first choice. Also, and I know this may not matter to everyone but it does to me, she uses very old equipment and isn't technologically advanced. After going to my RE for the last 5 months who is super advanced I like knowing that they use up to date technology.  Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions for female doctors either at or affiliated with GBMC? Thanks for your help!

Re: OB/GYN in Towson?

  • I absolutely love my practice, Charles St. Obgyn.  www.csobgyn.com

It is located at GBMC and there are three doctors, one female:  Laura Erdman, and two male:  Ottenritter and Singh.  You are *supposed* to rotate through all three docs when pregnant to assure you are comfortable with them all as any of those three could deliver your child.  I liked this as I thought three was not a bad number and felt good knowing it wasn't going to be some random on-call person delivering my child.  At some of the bigger practices, I have had friends complain that they just feel like a number to them, when there are so many docs there and it didn't feel personal.

I have seen them all but I have friends that only specifically see one, if you wanted to just stick with the female one.  I really have no complaints about any one of them...I feel very comfortable talking to them and I feel very well taken care of there.  As far as c-sections goes, of my friends who have delivered with them at GBMC, I would say half had to get c-sections, the other half did not.

Depending on your insurance, they do also have in house ultrasounds for the later parts of your pregnancy, if you need them frequently.  Before that, I did my first ultrasound at American Radiology and subsequent ones for the NT scan and then the genetics/find out the sex one at the GBMC Prenatal Diagnostic Lab, located near L&D.  As far as lab work goes, when you get referrals for it, again, depending on your insurance, you can just go downstairs to the GBMC lab or I sometimes go to Quest Diagnostics in Lutherville.

    Good luck in your search!

  • I also saw an RE (Fertility Center of MD)

After that I saw Dr. Susie Chung in Towson, she also has an office in Glen Burnie.  I really liked her a lot.

  • I'm with OB/GYN Specialists of MD.  They're right off the 695 York Road exit (north).  First big brick building on the right.  My doctor is Dr. Samuel Akman & he rocks!!  I've been with him for almost 10yrs already.  I've also seen the midwife (Jeaneette Wolff) & Laura Burham.

    Here's their website: https://obgynspecialists.net/default.aspx

  • I completely second PP 100%!! I'm with OB/GYN Specialists of MD and my OB is Dr. Ackman and he really is incredible! So much so that all of the women in mine and DH's family go to him!

Just so you're aware ahead of time. There are various OB's within this practice and anyone of them can deliver your baby, whoever is on call will be there. However, I have personally seen every single doctor within the practice and love them all! I have seen Dr. Pegues my last 3 OB visits and I have come to love him as much as Dr. Ackman!!

  • I go to Dr. Sandra Quartner her office is in GBMC.  She said she will do everything she can for me to avoid C-section.  She has most of your sonograms done either in her office or the high risk center (I am not high risk) because the equipment is better.  But beware she is the type of doc that does not sugar coat anything so if you are doing something that she is not happy with she will tell you.  She is very honest and I like that about her.

  • I love my OB, Dr. Joanne Lim. She has offices at St. Joe's and Harford Rd in Parkville and she delivers at St. Joes and GBMC. She is the best. She has operated on me to treat PCOS and endometriosis (I couldn't get a sticky baby til I had surgery) and she delivered my DD. I had a scheduled C-section because I have a broken tailbone and L had an abdominal mass on my lasxt u/s, but she normally encourages women to deliver vaginally if possible. She is in a practice with her mom and sister, and I have also seen the sister Dr. Elaine Lim. They are both nice and knowledgable and super helpful. I love love love Dr. Lim.
