S/A Test results question

I just wanted to see if anyone had any advice for me or my DH...

The results of my DH S/A: His sperm count is lower than the average.  I believe she said that his was 1.5 and they typically like it to be 2.  Then she also said something, and I'm not sure exactly what it was, but something about the time it takes to do something and his takes 90 minutes and they like it to take 60 minutes or less... I think it has something to do with traveling to where it should go.  She said the next step is to go to the Fertility doctor and see what they will do, she said possibly IUI.

Do you know what it might be that takes his 90 minutes, that they like to take 60?

Have any of you already been to a doctor from treatment (well your husbands), if so, what did they do?

    I'm thinking they mean the time it takes to liquify? I don't have a copy of my DH's results in front of me but i'm pretty sure that's what they are talking about.

    My DH's results were right at 60 minutes so he barely made that cut off. I'm not sure that it makes a huge impact. I do know that my RE has to wash his sperm (before the IUI) a couple of times because it takes longer to liquify. She didn't seem to concerned with that though. Hopefully others will have more insight.

    No clue about the 60 min. thing - my RE never mentioned that parameter to me. But, as far as the count - it should be about 20 million, not 2 so if it's 1.5 million, then yes you will want to go to a fertility doctor a reproductive endocrinologist - RE) & get your H re-tested & discuss your options from there. GL!

    I'm also guessing the Liquefaction time. On my DH's SA result the range is supposed to be <OR=60 min.

    Liquefaction time.  That sounds right.  I'm still not exactly sure what that means, but obviously it will cause some type of issue.

    We have an appointment scheduled for March 4, so hopefully they will be able to help us then.

    Just out of curiosity, on the spectrum of price, where does IUI relate to IVF?  Is it much cheaper or are they about the same?

    I've never done IVF, on my third IUI. Our IUI's run about $2,000 - $2,300 each. Luckily our RE has given us donated meds for both rounds with injectables or else we would have tacked on another 2k or so. The number above includes Ultrasounds, Insemination and sperm washing. I have seen other prices that were a lot lower than mine though...

    I've never tried IUI or IVF, but I called the clinic that my OB/GYN and my SIL (who's a doctor) recommended. They said that IUI without medication will run about $850 and IUI with med will be about $1100.

    Not sure about the IVF. I think it's about $15-20K

    IVF with ICSI (which is what you would need for MFI issues) at my clinic is $11,500 not including meds, which can run up to $4-5K w/o insurance.
