Re: **GD Tuesday Check IN**

  • I'm definitely scared of developing diabetes later in life.  i am going to try to keep my weight in check and go back to exercising regularly - that's really all i can do i think.

as for my after dinner snack, i have a 1/2 cup of chocolate ice cream - it's within my carb limit and really curbs the sweet tooth!

  • Loading the player...
  • Def. scared of developing diabetes - especially after having to live it, learned that I really am not a fan! LOL! Just planning on keeping weight in check and staying on top of my health

Dessert - oh yes.... my fave is a bowl of dry-roasted peanuts with 2 tbsp of semi-sweet chocolate chips mixed in (thanks to whoever on here posted that!!!).... amazing!! Or my other fave is a weight watchers chocolate crunch ice cream bar - but my numbers aren't AS great with that as with the peanut mix :)

  • I'm somewhat concerned and I've found that this low carb diet agrees with me.  I'm definitely more aware of the foods I'm eating and what they contain so I'll be sure to keep that going.  However, I will be reintroducing mac and cheese into my diet once the baby arrives!

For dessert, I have ice cream a few nights a week if my numbers are good.  I love the Edy's SF Mint Choc Chip.  Jello also makes a really good SF dark chocolate pudding.

  • QOTD: I have a family history of diabetes so I am really concerned about the possibility I'll get it later. In fact, when I was diagnosed that was the main reason I bawled my eyes out for an hour... However, I've come to look at the GD as a bit of a blessing in disguise because I've learned a lot about carbs and how my body processes them. I am going to continue eating carb-conscious and spreading out my carbs through the day as I have been. I also am going to try to keep avoiding the sugary stuff or at least keep eating it in moderation. I haven't been able to exercise so after these babies are born I want to get back to swimming as soon as I can - I miss my swim team mornings!

As for dessert... I am loving fudge bars right now. 12 grams of carbs per bar. Yummy! Even DH is liking them... I think we ran out last night :(

  • QOTD: I've thought a lot about it.  I plan to be more active, maybe join the gym and get into a good routine.  I also plan to watch the sweets.  I've always eaten a lot of chocolate and I think now I'd like to limit that to a once a week thing.

dessert: I haven't been eating any unless fruit counts.  I usually have fruit with dinner for part of my carb count.

  • I'd like to join! I need as much advice & support as I can get...

    SissyKate21 / Sarah / 30 / April 12 / diet and exercise

QOTD: I think that after LO is born I will get myself back into a regular exercise routine. I always felt the best when I was exercising 3 - 4 times per week. Also, I will be much more conscious of the effects of carbohydrates on my blood sugar. I think I'll be better equipped to keep my carbs in balance and so I won't be aggravating my system into full blown diabetes.

Menu: I've only been on this diet for one week, so I'm still getting used to how my numbers are affected by different foods. But what I have enjoyed over the past week was a small amount (1/4 to 1/3 cup) of unsweetened applesauce with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Throw in a piece of string cheese and I'm solid.

  • Question of the Day:

-I'm hoping that I do not really have to worry about this, I have no family history of diabetes, and I plan on always staying within a reasonable weight.  My MD also will not confirm or deny GD for me, she said my numbers are wonderful, but I might just be great at following a diet, so I may not even have to worry about it.  It's frustrating.

Menu: Dessert?. The one things we most likely have to go without? what are you eating for your after dinner snack?

    - I'm eating fruits for desserts, currently I've been enjoying mango, so delicious.  For my snack I'll often have peanut butter with a banana or cheese and crackers.

  • My mother is diabetic so I was already at a higher risk.  My only plan is to get back to my exercise routine and do a better job balancing my treats with my healthy food.

Of greater concern for my is my girls.  Because my BIL also has diabetes they are both at greater risk of developing it.

After dinner snack for me switches back and forth between popcorn with seasoning and ice cream.  Yummmy.  What I eat for evening snack seems to have zero effect on my fasting number so that is when I allow myself a little indulgence if I need it.

  • I definitely plan on making changes. I was about 30 pounds overweight pre-preg. So far, I have only gained six pounds. But, once she is born, I'm really going to get hard core (as much as I can with a baby) into exercising. I'm only a week and a half into this and I'm ok with doing this for 12 weeks, but NOT ok with doing this for the rest of my life.

I am having problems with desserts. I have IBS so all this artificial sweetener is killing my stomach. The only dessert at night I've had are popsicles and they really caused a lot of problems. I may try those peanuts with semi-choc chips a PP said ...that sounds pretty good.

  • Have you given any thought to what you will do after the LO is born to avoid this from happening? If so, share! I've always tracked my food intake on Sparkpeople.com but I've never been really diligent to care if I went over my carbs/calories... I'll pay a lot more attention to them now! Also, I'm really excited for summer and my new jogging stroller and I've been printing out maps of the hiking trails in our area so that DH, LO and I can go on lots of day trips to keep active.

Menu: Dessert?. The one things we most likely have to go without? what are you eating for your after dinner snack? Skinny Cow Sugar Free Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwiches... and Hunts Sugar Free Puddings... yum

  • I think about getting diabetes a lot (probably too much).  My fasting blood sugar is the hardest to control - all the rest of my numbers are well w/in range.  But I had several elevated fasting blood sugars at yearly physicals for a few years before getting pregnant.  I plan to continue to watch my diet, test my blood sugar on occasion (I think one day a week I'll test fasting and one post-meal just to keep an eye on it), as well as exercise.  I don't have any risk factors, so I have found it a bit odd to be struggling w/this - but having to test my blood sugar has been very eye opening to me - and I think it has been good becuase it has made me much more serious about preventing diabetes.

My absolute favorite dessert is sugar-free pudding.  It is so good it almost feels like cheating;)

I am at a real risk of developing Type 2 at some point because both of my mom's parents have it.  I will hopefully keep eating well, but I know I am going to go back to some of my old bad-for-you habits.  I miss my cookies and Lucky Charms!

Menu: Dessert?. The one things we most likely have to go without? what are you eating for your after dinner snack?

I LOVE Weight Watchers ice cream candy bars.  They taste just like a Snicker's ice cream bar, but are only 16g carbs each.  Also, I like Itty Bitz ice cream singles.  They are like Dippin' Dots, but are available right at the grocery store.  They range from 12-18g carbs each (depending on the flavor) so read the label.  They are so yummy!

    (old:Mystjava/Crystal/40/April 2/Boy/Unknown at the moment)

QOTD: I haven't really had any desserts yet since being on the GD diet, but as my late night snack - which has been changing because I am still trying to get my fasting numbers down!!!  This morning was the first time that my fasting number was actually a 90! So, I am still working on it..

I had found some Quaker Chewy Protein bars which I tried last night with a small amount of dry roasted peanuts.  The other time that I had a fasting number below 90 was when I had made a grilled cheese open toast.

Currently one of my biggest difficulties is finding "protein" to have in my diet.. I have never really been a big protein eater anyhow.. Please - don't tell me eggs! I've been having those almost every morning and I am already TIRED of them!

  • I plan on losing weight & becoming healthier. Idk if I will be able to stick with the low carb diet after she is here, but I've been thinking about weight watchers to lose the weight. I'm definitely going to become more active as well!

I had been eating 3 tootsie rolls & that seemed to cure my sweet tooth. But then I found out I could eat pudding pops, so I now change it up when I get a craving!

  • Opps...I only answered the second part.. not the first part.. Blame it on the pregnancy brain!  As to being concern about developing diabetes after my LO is born.. YES!  It does weight on my mind because I have NO idea if my father's side of the family was ever at risk for it or not.. the only "clue" that I have is that we're Native American, so therefore we're at risk.  What I plan to do is take the LO for lots of walks with our dogs.  I plan to attack our hiking trails up here and hopefully be able to shed some pounds so that I am lower than what I was before I got pregnant! (That also includes playing disc golf too!)
  • Question of the Day:  I am honestly hoping I won't need to worry about diabetes later in life.  I have no family history and have been pretty active prior to pregnancy.  This has heightened my nutritional awareness which will continue on after LO arrives.

Menu: Dessert?. sugar free chocolate pudding with walnuts on top is fab!

An update for me, my treatment is diet alone at this time.  I go in Thursday for my first follow up.

  • Question of the Day:  GD mom?s are at higher risk for having diabetes in the future. Have you given any thought to what you will do after the LO is born to avoid this from happening? If so, share!  I already had it in my mind to really work on myself after Nathan arrives. So with developing GD I am going to work very hard to get my own self under control to avoid type 2 diabetes. I was already at risk due to being overweight plus my dad having type 2.

Menu: Dessert?. The one things we most likely have to go without? what are you eating for your after dinner snack? It depends on what I have for dinner and how my after dinner number is. If it is low, then I treat myself to ice cream (made w/ splenda). If the number is higher, I have peanut butter and crackers.
