You know what? I had no idea that other Mormon's were so secretive about what we believe until I posted earlier! What do members say when you ask them questions?

So I just noticed you're a fellow Utahn! I never noticed this on your previous posts. I went and caught up on your earlier post. I was raised LDS but became inactive right after high school and no only consider myself a member on the records...not in my heart. It was very interesting reading all of the other posts. The questions were hilarious and yes you did handle it like a champ. Anyway...just thought I would say hi and "introduce" myself!!

I honestly think we're the only two on here. The was one girl when I first started bumping in September but I don't remember her name. She may still be on here...who knows!
I actually thought of another question if you don't mind answering Skybee!
As I mentioned before, my one friend converted to Mormonism to get married.
I have another friend whose little brother converted to Mormonism, and is about to leave to go on a mission trip. Maybe I heard her wrong, but she said that he is not allowed to contact his family at home through any other means but writing (snail mail). She said that the at home family isn't allowed to even tell him bad news (such as a family member being sick) in their responses. Why is this?
Because they don't want it as a distraction to their mission?
Thanks again Skybee. You're a trooper love!
ETA: I'm sorry. My friends who are Mormon aren't necessarily secretive about their religion, just not as open as you are.
My friend normally shared about her faith and I would share about mine (I am Catholic) but there were some questions that I just did not find an appropriate time to ask. It just felt awkward.
I do have to say thank you for sharing and being so open.

That is exactly right! They do not want distractions while boys are on their missions. They do get to call home on Christmas and mother's day and if there is a serious illness in the family the Mission president lets the missionary know... From there the next step is taken ( whether the young man goes home temporarily or gets to call home) The family can write letters or emails and he can write them back......it can be very hard for moms though as you can imagine!

Hey there, I'm a fellow Utah girl myself, and mormon. Just wanted to say Hi. I am new to this board. Also wanted to say that I agree with the PP that you handled your responses like a champ!
My DH's cousin is Mormon and lives in Utah. She came home to visit with her children--husband didn't visit with her--and was told she had to have a chaperon for the trip. Once she was here, she wasn't allowed to go anywhere without her chaperon, including to her family's houses. Is this a standard Mormon practice when the birth family is not also Mormon, or does she appear to belong to a stricter church, or what would be the general reasoning behind this?

I have no idea what that is all about! That is not common practice whatsoever!

Good to know! It seemed like something was really weird about the situation so I'm glad it's not the norm. Maybe she just has a controlling husband!
Re: I have learned something about Mormons today......
WOW.....I can see why people think Mormons are weird.....

I just caught up on your posts last night. It was very cool of you to do that. Thanks again for being so open; I really learned a lot.
