Success after IF

help!! how do I stop the bleeding??

I nicked H's finger while cutting his nails and it will NOT stop bleeding.  It just looks like a little cut, and I've been applying pressure for 20 mins, but it just keeps bleeding. Is there anything else I can do?

  • Wrap a band aid around it and hold it above his head for a few minutes.

  • I have now done that twice...oops.  And both times it bled like crazy!  I did the same thing, just kept putting pressure on it.  Then it was time for him to take a nap and I thought it had stopped...but when I went to get him from his nap, there were bloody spots on his sheets, the crib rails and on his clothes.  But by then, it seemed to have stopped.  I would just keep trying to put pressure on it (which I am sure your DS loves as much as mine did).  It will eventually stop, you might just get bloody spots on clothes, etc.  GL!  I would not put a band aid or anything like that on it - he could put it in his mouth and choke on it...

  • Hold his hand up for a little while and keep the pressure on. The worst cuts are finger cuts - they seem to bleed the most.

  • I have done this several times (including yesterday) when clipping Hayden's nails. They seem to take forever to clot. Just keep putting pressure on it and elevate it. It will stop.
