Hip Dysplasia and Pavlik Harness

My little guy was diasnosed with a slight click in his hip and was fitted for a Pavlik harness yesterday. Anyone have any experience with this. The doctor was so fast that I can hardly recall how long he would have to wear it. I know that of all degrees of hip dysplasia, his is the lowest and easiest to cure. Thanks in advance!

I don't know about the harness, but I had hip dysplasia when I was a baby. As I understand it from my mother, I was in a body cast for 3 months and a harness for 3 months. I am none the worse for wear -- have never had a problem with my hip. Good luck with your little one!

My baby boy was also in a Pavlik for about four months. Once we got used to it, it really wasn't a big deal at all. My son's dysplasia was also mild and was in his left hip. Was your son breech? Does he have any issues with torticollis? My son was in PT for three months for the torticollis. He's nine months now (finished up with PT and the pavlik at 6 months) and he is doing great....perfectly normal hip and the torticollis is completely corrected. Our friend's daughter also had hip dysplasia & had to wear a harness. She was in it for about 6 months. She's 17 months now & doing great.

My daughter has it. I also had it. My child is 19 months old. she wore the harness for 4 months... THey are still watching her...

My daughter had it. She was put in the pavlik at 17 days old...the clicking was found at birth and we watched it for 2 wks. The pavlik was not successful for her after 1 month, so then she was put in the rhino brace which I liked MUCH better! Easier to change her etc. She was in the rhino brace full time until she was 6 months old and then part time until she was 8 months. We had an amazing pediatric ortho doc and she is now just fine after her last appt....we dont need another x-ray until she is 5 yrs old. She was a bit delayed with crawling and walking, but now she is almost 2 and you would never have known!

My son was in a Pavlik harness when he was just a few days old. He wore it for about six weeks. He didn't have good range of motion in his hips. The hardest part was not being able to give him a bath (we had to do a sponge bath until one day he puked on the thing). The earlier you do it, the better! Let me see if I can find a photo:
