Uncooperative Baby during 20 week u/s?

Anyone else have one?

We had our 20 week u/s on Friday and they got all the pictures they needed.....except the spine.  No matter what they did (pushed on my belly, had my lie on my left side, etc...) could encourage the baby to flip over.  I have to go back for a follow-up today.  Any advice on encouraging the little bugger to flip?  I think I might try having some caffeine, but then I'm afraid h/she will be moving too much ;)

  • I bet the baby will have changed positions and they will get what they need today.  Good luck!

  • We had the exact same thing happen to us yesturday, baby was all curled up and we couldn't get a good head shot or heart shot.  The US tech told me to drink some juice (for the sugar) I am guessing and have half a cup of coffee if I wanted before we go in this morning.
  • I'm pretty sure our little one knew exactly which measurements the docs were trying to get and then moved out of the correct position to take the measurements...  I would think the baby has probably moved on his/her own, but maybe you could eat something like 30 min before you go?  I've heard many other women mention that after they eat their baby becomes more active.
  • We had the same thing happen!  And I drank an entire can of V8 Fruit Fusion (36 grams of natural sugars) beforehand and still nothing!  The baby was definitely kicking and moving, but was at such a funky angle they couldn't see anything.  Luckily you get to go back in today.  My next appt isn't until 2/18!  GL today!

  • I had the same problem with DS.  They had no trouble getting the shots they needed when we went back for round 2.  It was just another great opportunity to peak at the little guy.  Enjoy it!

  • This happened with my 1st child. They were able to get all the measurements they needed the next time. I am shocked that they asked you come back so soon. I would htink they would give the baby a week or so to move around.

Well, the baby was moving a lot just not flipping over.  I guess they feel I'm far enough along (and have had the baby flip over during other u/s) that they thought it was a fluke?  Who knows.

  • Yes! We had ours last Tuesday and baby was fast asleep the whole time!!! I had eaten a pack of Reese's Cups and she would not budge. She was lying flat on her stomach with her head down and sitting on her legs! The tech kept jabbing me and trying to wake her but nothing. She would move a little like she was stretching and then right back to sleep. She finally was able to get a shot of in between her legs, but they didnt get any measurements they needed so we have to go back Friday. My doctor told me to have a can of Coke right before and there shouldnt be a problem :)
