Flying with a baby??

Hi Ladies,

I am leaving on Wednesday with my little guy and wondering if anyone else has done this and if they have any tips, tricks, or must packs for our journey??

Thanks!

  • I have not taken Aiden on any flights but if you repost this on the National board (6-12) they can be really helpful (best time to post is at night)

When we meet up I will tell you some of the tricks I have read about

  • We just flew with O two weeks ago.  It went really well.

    1. Pack more diapers than you think you need.  Include some kind of bag to put a dirty one in you can tie. We had to change on the plane and there was no way to get to the bathroom.  I keep newspaper bags (the plastic ones) in my diaper bag for just such a thing.  No smell, no mess...

    2. Take a Boppy or some kind of pillow he can rest on. The Boppy saved my life. Kind of a pain but worth it.

    3. Don't start feeding too soon for take off.  I made the mistake of nursing her when we pulled away from the gate and we didn't take off for another 20 mins.  She was a hot mess and I'm pretty sure it was the ear popping thing. The other 3 flights I would wait until we were actually headed down the run way  or 2 mins after we left the ground.  Worked great and she slept the entire flight.

  • I traveled on a plane with Jace at 7 months old.

I agree with all the listed tips, and here's a couple of my own:

Wear slip on shoes, and don't use a baby wearer. They're both a pain to mess with in the security check when traveling with babies.

I actually was going to recommend bringing something to wear baby.  I had my stroller, car seat, diaper bag and a carry on (because it's so expensive to check these things now) and it was nice to have my hands free when dealing with it all.  Plus, you can stand and walk with LO during the flight and, depending on your baby, they may just fall asleep.  It was a lifesaver for me.

  • If O tolerated a Bjorn we would have brought it with.  Luckily she is a shrimp and it was no big deal to carry her. Now running through O'Hare was a different story...
