Gallbladder problems?

Anyone have this since DC was born?

I think I may be having issues with mine now. And since I told my mom what I've been dealing with, she has now told me that her and two of her sisters had gallbladder issues after having DC. My mom had it 6 months after I was born, my one aunt had it 9 months after my cousin was born, and my other aunt I'm not sure how long it was.

I have an appt tomorrow. I'm not too worried since now I know from my family history that the chances are good that the gallbladder is the issue. I just never had surgery before, so if I need it, that will be a new experience for me. I do feel better knowing that they usually can do that surgery laproscopically nowadays.

Anyone have this? Can you tell me more on what to expect?

  • Can I ask you- how did it feel to you? That is, the pain that made you see the Dr. about it.

The best way for me to describe it is that uncomfortable feeling you get when you're 6 or 7 months pregnant and the baby starts getting under your ribs. Its not always painful for me, mostly just uncomfortable. It does aggravate it when I eat certain things though. And I find that my one bra really irritates it because of where the band lays.

  • I just had mine out 2 weeks ago.  I realize now that I was having attacks while I was pregnant, but didn't go in for help until just before Christmas.

It was my first surgery, and mine was also laproscopic.  Open surgery is very rare these days for that.

I feel like I'm healing very quickly.  I had the surgery on a Thursday and went back to work the following Tuesday with no problems.

My diet is a wreck, as I can't eat anything now, but it's so much better than the attacks that had me in so much pain.  I'm looking forward to the weight loss ;) lol

Really- you'll be fine.  This is soooo common.  I learned that here :)

  • My pain shot through my right side into my back.  There were no positions that were comfortable for me while I had an attack.  It felt like I had the biggest gas bubble in the world between my ribs and there was nothing I could do about it as I wasn't really gassy.  Once the attack was over, I felt nothing and was completely fine.

Okay, that's good to know. This sounds exactly like me, except my pain is right below my ribs across the front. From what I've read and heard, this would be a normal location for gallbladder pain.

How long should I expect to be off work if I do need surgery?

Yes, yes- I have also had attacks that were right below my ribs across the front.  Totally :(  I'm sorry to hear that you are too.

I went in for surgery on Thursday, the 14th, stayed in the hospital until the 15th, stayed home on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (kind of...I had to take DS to the doctor on Saturday and had to go to a funeral on Monday, but slept other than those thigns), and went back to work on Tuesday.  I'm a teacher...I stayed sitting as much as possible (lol @ that!), but managed to be kind of low key for a few days.  So I was back at work 5 days later.

  • When I had my gallbladder attacks it was the worse pain of my life.  I had a no meds/natural birth with LO and I would have gladly gone through that over and over instead of my attacks- seriously awful.

I waited to long for surgery and ended up with a blockage that caused pancreatitis.  The whole ordeal ended up with me spending a week in the hospital.I had thge lap surgery and endoscopy to remove the blockage in my tube.  As bad as the whole ordeal was the actual surgery was no big deal.  My only wish is that I had done is sooner and avoided all the extra drama.
