1st Trimester

zumba?

I really used to like taking zumba but I haven't been in a while since my year started out pretty busy. now that Im pregnant, Im leary of getting into something again that I haven't done in a while- and I know you aren't really supposed to get into anything you weren't already doing before, so what do you ladies think about zumba class? is is safe in first tri? I worry about the bouncing and high intensity that can happen in this class sometimes. what have been your experiences with classes? any others you can recommend? Thanks!

Re: zumba?

  • I've continued doing it. I had to stop for  a few weeks b/c of some spotting from a subchorionic hemorrhage. There was a post earlier this afternoon with a video of a pregnant woman teaching a class. I think it was titled "Re: earlier Zumba discussion" or something like that...

  • I've continued with my 3x/week zumba classes.  I know people that have continued with running during the majority of the pregnancies.

My instructor has a lady in another class that has continued and is now about 35 weeks along.  The instructor did say the mommy to be has modified some moves but reports that she's planning to stick with it until she delivers.

  • I teach Zumba, as long as you modify your steps and no jumping you should be good.

  • I just started Zumba two weeks ago for the first time. I jumped right in and love it! I'm going to talk to my Dr. about it today but I don't plan to stop. Also, I've never heard anything about not jumping as pp suggested. I would check with your dr. though. Good luck!

I feel so much better after I work out. It's great for m/s.
