DH went in saturday for his SA. The lab tech told DH at first that she couldn't give him the results that day. But after she had taken it back and looked she came back and told him she couldn't find anything in the sample, so she was going to centrifuge it and check again in a concentrated sample. 30 minutes later and a second opinion from the lab manager it was confirmed that DH has 0 sperm.
They are going to check for fructose in case there is a block and DH is setting up a follow up with his uro, but at this point we are pretty certain between DH's cancer radiation treatment and the hormone replacements that DH is sterile.
DH is setting up an appt with his urologist tomorrow to see what we might be able to do about his count (maybe going off the steroids) might bring it up a little. However, we are probably looking at fertility treatments for #2. During this whole thing all I could think of was thank goodness we have Wyatt at least! This was not a good weekend at all!
Re: DH went to his RE this weekend results not good
That totally sucks! As if having cancer isn't enough, now it affects something else.
My DH has issues as well. We ended up going straight from Clomid to IVF. The process was really smooth for us and "easy." The main thing with all fertility treatments, IMO, is to trust your doctors and take it one day at a time or it can be very overwhelming.
I hope there is something they can to do up his count!! That would be a great miracle!!
I don't even know what to say.
Keeping you guys in my T&P.
I'm so sorry you guys are going through this.
My BFF is going through the same thing right now. She goes tomorrow for a consult for her first IVF. Her DH had testicular cancer, radiation, and now pretty much the same as your DH- no sprem count. They've done 2 IUI's and are gonna try out IVF. I just can't even imagine having to go through all that.
Anyway, sorry to ramble, but T&P I know it must be hard.
KatherineMichael, DH had testicular cancer too.
Thanks for the T&P.
I am sorry to hear this. Was this his first semen analysis? I would see a urologist that just sees male infertility. I am wondering if there are some RE's that just specialize in treating cancer patients. This must be hard.
IM me if you want to talk

He does have some sperm banked but not much. He has 3 samples stored, so enough for 1 or 2 IUIs and some IVF if the IUI fails. I just don't even know where to begin the process though. It is all just so overwhelming. We don't want to TTC right now, but sometime this year had been our plan. Now I guess we get to save up and maybe next year. I guess we just really didn't expect this.
I know everyone is different, but his older brother had testicular cancer, same testicle, almost exactly 6 years apart, and the same type seminoma with the same course of treatment. He just had his first baby in October, and they conceived naturally, so we just kind of assumed DH would be ok too. It just caught us off guard you could say.
It is all setting in now and we are coping much better. When I wrote the earlier post I was still in shock and just didn't know how to feel exactly and needed to let it out. KWIM?
You might want to see an doctor and get checked out as well so you know that there is nothing going on with you.. just so you know. At least you can get some sort of plan and know what your options are.
oh, absolutely. i hope i didn't come across like i was belittling your feelings... like i said, we went through fert. treatments too and it's a lot to take in and you never really "see" yourself doing anything (besides sex LOL) to have a baby. i'm sorry things aren't go to be as easy with #2 but i'm glad that you guys have some sperm banked.
