Pregnant after 35

too much amniotic fluid?

I'm 37 weeks and my doctor just told me I have too much amniotic fluid, he is talking to specialists to find out somethings but Iwont hear from him tell Monday.  He said they might want to induce me at 38 weeks if i havent gone on my own by then. This is my first and I'm totally freaking out. I have been researching it on the internet which is scaring me even more. If anyone has some info about this i would love to hear it.

Re: too much amniotic fluid?

  • I had too much amniotic fluid and delivered a healthy baby 1/5/10.  From 34 weeks on,  I had a weekly NST & BPP to monitor it.  I was diagnosed with GD @ 36 weeks.  I was able to control the GD with diet.  I was induced @ 41 weeks 1 day due to the GD. The excess fluid didn't cause any adverse symptoms for me. I was more uncomfortble than with my last pgs. GL!

  • I'm sorry, I'm sure that was upsetting.  Poly hydramnios (too much fluid) can be caused by GD or sometimes for no particular reason at all.  There are scarier reasons but usually these are not the case.  Usually as long as the baby looks good they just keep monitoring you with NST, or BPP (u/s).  I hope you get reassuring info on Monday.  GL!

  • thank you I feel a lot better now. I have stopped reading about it on the internet as well which has helped.
  • I had too much with my first. Had to go in three times a week for NST and once a week for ultrasounds. Had a perfectly healthy little one. Unfortunately, because of the fluid, the ultrasound tech thought K was going to be a huge baby so we were advised to have a c-section because of her size. When they told us the weight DH and I just looked at each other in shock. She was just above 7 lbs. Stay off the internet, it just freaks you out.
