Clicky Poll: Lydia or Lyla

(Lydia was a sister of DH's that was stillborn. She was actually a twin - Lydia and Karen. Karen was stillborn too but we're not such a fans of the name. Lyla is my grandmother's name who I am sooo close with)

Re: Help me with names here...

  • I LOVE the name Lydia!!! That was a top contender for us for quite some time... it was actually our 3rd favorite name out of everything we looked at.  We ended up with our first and second fav (Elise Katelynn)

  • I really like Logan, and I think I like Lyla over Lydia.

Is there a reason for all the L names?

  • Both of our name choices are L names too. hahaha... Just coincidence though.

I definitely prefer Lyla. Not only just as a name, but for some reason I think it's kind of weird to be naming your daughter after one of DH's stillborn twin sisters. I hope that doesn't come out sounding completely insensitive and offensive. I just think it's odd to pick one over the other, for one thing, and have you asked how your MIL feels about that? It might be weird for her.

But I definitely love Lyla and think it'd be great to honor your grandmother.

I don't really have an opinion about Logan.

  • Logan was our choice if Brynn was a boy. Our boy would have been Logan Cole.

I really like Lyla for a girl.

No, not really. lol We tend to gravitate towards them... they go really well with our last name "Hollands" ... but we're open to other letters of the alphabet too. I just need to get some baby name books.

I loved the name Lydia before I knew that was one of the stillborn sisters names. I did ask my MIL a few years back and again fairly recently. She has no problem with anyone using it. She says that had the twins have been born healthy & at term, she was certain she would change their names to Faith & Grace. So it's a family name, but not...kind of.

I definitely appreciate your honest opinion!

ETA: I honestly think when MIL remembers the twins, she remembers them in her mind as Faith & Grace. She's never said it and I would never ask, but she seems so unattached to the names Karen & Lydia and more attached to Faith & Grace. they passed at 25 weeks with no answers.

I can't imagine going through what your MIL (and so many women on here) have been through. I feel even douchier now about what I said, but I'm glad you weren't offended. :) Are you team green? I can't remember.

No, don't feel douchey at all...  Yes, we're team green. It is hard to remember without everyone's siggies.

That's awesome that we both have L names picked out for our surprise babies!

  •  Logan does not sound like a girl to me, but there are a lot of boys names that are getting used for girls.  It's nms.

I love lydia and lyla.  Lyla was in our top names for a while, I can't remember why I took it out...

Liam, Lewis, Lenard, Larry, Leo, I'm not any good at this game...

  • Lydia is one of my favorites, too  Plus, I love that it would have special meaning.

  • Lydia was a top contender for us, until a friend referred this site to us. I love it (the site) because it has a section where people review their own names. We liked Lydia until we read so many entries about girls being called "Lydia Chlamydia." Kids are mean, and we figured we'd keep looking. I still think it's such a pretty name, though!

  • I love all of the names...especially Lydia.

And I have to admit I'm jealous because I tend to LOVE L names, but have an L last name that always sounds silly with them.

  • I love the name Lydia!  It's a favorite of mine for girls.  But Lyla is really pretty too.

For boys I absolutely love the name Liam.  DH not so much though.

And DH name is Leonard (nm is Lenny) but I guess I won't suggest it since he hates his name Stick out tongue

  • Oh, and I like the name Luke too for a boy!
