Success after IF

What age did you let lo sleep through the night?

That is without feeding?  I have a 6 1/2 week old and the other night she ate at 7 and fell asleep about 8.  At 12:30 (5 1/2 hours) I woke her to feed her.  I am afraid she will starve if she goes any longer than that.  So what sleep lengths are ok at this age and when can I stop worrying about that and just let her sleep? tia

  • How much does she weigh? I know our doctor said that babies are pretty much capable of sleeping through then night once they hit a certain weight. I would think as long as she isn't underweight, you're ok to let her sleep until she wakes up.

  • If she has gotten back up to birth weight, I would let her sleep.  When I brought Paige home from the hospital, I set my alarm so I could wake her up to eat.  I got over doing that very quickly haha.

  • we had weight issues, so I woke him up and set my alarm as PP said.

But, if she is a good weight (i forget what they like - but she should be past her birth weight at 4wks I think).  If she is, I would let her sleep.

  • I just had to laugh at "letting" them STTN...i so wish that was an issue for us!

But, I *think* that a lot of ppl say if they are gaining weight well, past birth weight (obviously your DD would be), etc, you don't have to wake to eat, just make sure she is eating enough during the day to compensate for missed night feedings so she'll continue to gain appropriately.  Your pedi probably has an opinion about it, I'm sure the nurse could answer it for you.

  • We only had to wake him for the first 2 weeks and then the pedi said he could go as long as he wanted. He dropped his last "night feeding" which was the 4 am feeding at about 3 1/2 months.

  • Our ped told us after 2 weeks, you don't need to wake them, even though most will wake up on their own.

  • My pedi said once LO was back at thier birth weight you could let them sleep as long as they wanted at night. Enjoy the sleep!! :o)
  • My LO has been sleeping 5-7 hours at night since she was 4 days old. My Pedi said not to wake her to feed her and to follow her ques...meaning, she will wake to wat when she's hungry. But she was not a preemie and is gaining steadily.

  • DS was 2 months old.  He sleeps like a champ.
  • You can stop worrying now! She will wake if she is hungry! Unless she is a preemie who lost a lot of weigh, she is fine!
